About the team

The opportunity

The Civil Engineer will provide the agency with technical advice and expertise relating to civil aspects of projects including hydraulic, pavement, geotechnical, and leaching. This incorporates verifying that technical designs comply with minimum benchmarks set by relevant engineering standards, codes of practice, or from ARWA Research & Development activities.

The Civil Engineer is responsible for reviewing and evaluating the work of other engineering disciplines to verify that civil components of designs adequately interface with the work contributed by other technical experts. The role will also undertake to assist in the implementation of new strategies to meet project objectives by establishing efficient work scopes for civil engineering activities, supporting the integration of safety, environment, and security into the civil design elements and that civil designs minimise impacts on these considerations.

What you will do

• Reviewing civil designs calculations.
• Validating completeness of design and documentation.
• Understanding project specifications and tracking the performance of any contractual obligations tied to them.
• Preparing civil documentation in line with the agency’s documentation management system.• Verify the compliance of engineering deliverables with regulations, standards, requirements, and other relevant guidelines.
• Provide technical support and guidance within civil engineering across multiple disciplines for the delivery of design activities.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must:

• Be an Australian citizen or in the process of obtaining Australian Citizenship before commencement. You may be asked to provide evidence of this.
• Undertake a pre-employment security assessment and subsequent security clearance. All staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance however some roles will require a higher level security clearance. If you are offered a role and do not have a current security clearance, we will work with you to arrange for this to be undertaken.
• Be medically fit to undertake the duties of the job.
• Intrastate and interstate travel including overnight stay may be required.

A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
