The Role
This Engineering Communications role within the Combat Systems Program is an excellent opportunity to engage with stakeholders, perform and achieve very complex communications engineering work within an integrated workforce.
The role requires delivering a radio frequency communications system and networking capability to the Collins Class submarine. Engineering functions include managing requirements, analysing communications system performance and verifying the implementation.
The Engineer is accountable to perform and achieve very complex communications engineering work in compliance with legislative frameworks, and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
Submarine Combat Systems Program within National Shipbuilding Sustainment Group (NSSG) is responsible for the acquisition and sustainment of Collins Class submarine Program.
The Programs are:
- Professionally challenging: submarines are complex systems that operate in harsh conditions. You are trusted to deliver engineering and technical support to ensure Australia’s submarines can be operated safely.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be able to:
- Lead, plan and deliver critical complex engineering activities and provide advice in the field of submarine communications system.
- Work collaboratively, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage workflows, resources and prepare work and team plans by detailing measureable milestones and expected outcomes.
- Ensure that delivered material meets the requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
- Have in-depth knowledge of the communications engineering function and be responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function.
