Background
Football Australia is the national governing body for football in Australia. It governs all national teams (including the Socceroos and Commonwealth Bank Matildas), the A-Leagues, FFA Cup, National Premier Leagues and leads state, community and grassroots football. Football Australia is also responsible for over 11,000 registered referees across the country.
Introduction
The Head of Referees is a complex and profile role for Football in Australia. As a leader of a large internal and external multi-disciplinary team, in both professional and community football, the role is responsible for elevating the reputation and experience of Australian Referees locally, nationally, and globally. A strategic and development focussed role, the Head of Referees isresponsible for leading innovative high-performance strategies and fostering a strong culture within Australia’s refereeing community, which spans its professional leagues and State Member Federations.
The role must empower elite referees to excel and ensure high-level stakeholder engagement across the Australian football ecosystem. The role variously has responsibility for referee development and assessment, well-being, and ensuring referees have representation in Football Australia’s XI core strategic goals.
This position will navigate both the FA and Australian Professional Leagues, exceptional stakeholder management skills will be key to the success of the role. Australian football and Australian referees have a burgeoning reputation on the world stage and the role is responsible for international partnerships and relationships with FIFA, AFC, OFC, JFA and the EPL, positioning Australian refereeing prominently on the global stage.
Purpose of Role
Lead the Refereeing department to manage the strategy, technical direction, development and operational management of refereeing across the A-Leagues and Community Football, ensuring the development and implementation of effective strategies, structures, and standards that align with the demands of Australian football. This role also serves as the principal technical advisor on the Laws of the Game for Football Australia. Key Areas of Responsibility and Actions
