Research Fellow in Collaborative Robotics

In this role, you will apply your expertise in the sensing and robotics domains to create solutions that utilise the abilities of cobotic systems to add value to industrial and production processes of industry partners. You will also take leadership of research projects, supervise post graduate students and actively contribute to the research community within the university and across Australia.
The position is supported by the Australian Research Council’s Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Collaborative Robotics in Advanced Manufacturing program (the Australian Cobotics Centre) of which Swinburne is a partner. The Centre offers a training program which has a strong emphasis on professional development as well as technical skills, and includes opportunities to build your knowledge, skills, experience, and professional standards through on-the-job tasks, social learning and formal training opportunities.
The Centre is focused on collaboration and knowledge sharing between industry and research partners and this role will contribute to strengthening existing partnerships with external stakeholders, and to help develop new and ongoing partnerships. This role may include periods working directly at our partner organisations, including Weld Australia, Infra Build and B&R Enclosures, and at our university partner sites, which will involve travel outside of Swinburne University of Technology and interstate.
This position is open only to applicants who have work rights in Australia.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- A proven track-record of implementing practical solutions in real-world scenarios, including strong technical skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work effectively with tools and machinery.
- Ability to contribute to research projects including identifying and tracking milestones, reporting on progress and identifying barriers to completion.
- Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively and proactively as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-institution research team, as well as proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills for scholarly publications, technical reports and project documentation including with industry/non-research-based partners.
- Experience working in industrial settings and/or within regulatory or compliance driven environments and/or quality control is preferred.
Qualifications
- Completion of a doctoral qualification in related field with proven knowledge of research techniques and methodologies in a key field of research - i.e. robotics, mechatronics, Io T, digital product and/or systems design, systems engineering, digital manufacturing.
