The Role

Working closely with the Creative Director and Exhibition Project Manager, the Researcher contributes to the research and interpretation of Places of Pride, a national register of War memorials across Australia. Under direction this position will undertake research, analysis and develop briefing documentation for a film which will celebrate the role of local memorials and commemoration. Working closely with internal stakeholders you will be required to actively participate in workshops and community engagement activities to provide expertise and recommendations for the development of the individual community film briefs.
You will also be required to work across multiple Memorial systems including collection management (Piction) and document management (e.g. Share Point) systems on a daily basis.

This position entails working with potentially distressing and culturally sensitive material.

This vacancy will initially be filled up until the 30 June 2025.

Core Responsibilities

Under general direction undertake a range of tasks related to the Gallery Redevelopment including:


  • Contribute to the research to inform the community memorial film briefs.
  • Identify and engage with local community stakeholders to confirm dates when local ceremonies take place and confirm the locations and contact details.
  • Confirm any permits required to film in the various locations, the process and timing for approvals and any associated fees.
  • Maintain detailed digital records of all community and stakeholder engagements.
  • As part of the community research and film brief preparation, ascertain any assets relating to community memorials and historical ceremonies and any copyright fees.
  • Contribute to the development of the film by identifying and assessing potential collection materials for inclusion.
  • Produce high quality written work including film briefs, correspondence record keeping, minutes and reports and contribute to research assignments and publications.
  • Undertake data enhancement for collection material, documenting items on the Memorial’s collection management systems (Museum Plus and Piction).
  • Arrange for conservation and photography of items where necessary.
  • Undertake administrative and project tasks in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Participate in team planning and training processes.
