Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Arts Research & Technology; Associate Professor Visual Arts and Indigenous Studies; Director of Onkwehonwe Research Environment; Co-Investigator of Abundant Intelligences.
Description: Abundant Intelligences Regional POD Coordinators are an essential component of the administration of the POD’s activities and can serve as both Regional and Council Coordinators simultaneously. Their central role is to oversee the Regional POD's general operation, coordinate collaboration among its members, share research and information, and assist in its proper functioning. They will work in the regional research lab (the Onkwehonwe Research Environment in Visual Arts at Western University) and assist with all activities related to administration, research, production, documentation and research-creation as assigned by the POD Director. The Onkwehonwe Research Environment (ORE) is a new research lab that will facilitate key activities and long-term initiatives focused on advanced Indigenous arts and technology research; it is housed in the Visual Arts department, and functions in conjunction with Indigenous Studies, the Wampum Learning Lodge and Indigenous organizations in the region. Hybrid in character, multidisciplinary in scope, and innovative in ambition, ORE is the central hub for Indigenous-led research-creation activities at Western, supporting all projects and initiatives related to artistic production, student training, dissemination and public/community engagement. Core research-creation areas include: media arts production; 3d scanning and data visualization; artificial intelligence; virtual reality applications; video & audio installations.
Responsibilities:
  • assist in overseeing the general operations of the Regional POD and research LAB.
  • assist in overseeing the strategic research direction of the Regional POD, in consultation with the regional membership.
  • assist with maintaining good relationships across the Regional POD
  • help ensure the research program aligns with those of the Abundant Intelligences networks, the Executive Council and the Steering Committee.
  • organize Regional POD meetings, and help create meeting agendas’
  • note taking and record keeping at meetings and other events. This may include audio/video recordings (with permission).
  • documentation of events, happenings and other. This includes organizing documentation provided by the Regional and Council membership
  • communications, including website and design
  • assist in promoting and organizing collaboration across the POD
  • Data management, backup and security (including policy) across the POD
  • organizing and managing CV for all members of the Regional POD
  • research management (general)
  • oversee annual review of research progress
  • Assist with research-creation activities (media arts, and studio arts practices and production).
Eligibility:
Appointed by the Regional POD Director; must be a student enrolled in full-time or part-time studies at Western, or a community member appointed with the permission of the POD Council.
