Job Description
Sunchild Child and Family Services is hiring a Director of Prevention. We require a highly motivated, visionary, team-oriented leader with a passion for First Nations children and families and a commitment to family preservation.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Protection is responsible for department oversight, ongoing community assessment of children, youth, and families, and strengthening of social services in the community. The incumbent will liaise with all SCFS departments and engage with various stakeholders. This director will work collaboratively with the stakeholders to effectively meet the community's needs. This position engages and implements community events, supports, and services to prevent or reduce risk to children/youth . In consultation with the Executive Director, the incumbent supports the development of Sunchild community engagement, including the development of policy and processes for the best interest of Sunchild children, youth and families.
The Director of Prevention and Resources will ensure services delivered are consistent with the vision, mission, and core values of the Sunchild Child & Family Services Society. The Director of Prevention and Resources will work within the direction of the Executive Director and collaboratively with the Management Team and other Directors from the other service areas. The Director of Prevention and Resources will ensure that service standards and the agency's policies and procedures are followed, implemented, and evaluated per the agency's standards and relevant regulators. The Director of Prevention and Resources will provide regular and reliable reports on the organization to the Executive Director.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to developing, implementing and evaluating strategic plans, practice standards, social work code of ethics, program and company policies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Addresses community poverty and other social issues and disparities
- Identify social needs requirements and develop effective programs designed to respond to the needs of the community
- Working with interdepartmental leadership and ensure inclusion of community events
- Report critical issues/items relating to staff and/or operations and service delivery.
- Work with supervisors, management and practitioners to evaluate performance and recommend appropriate courses of action under HR policies and procedures
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of all the trends in funding from Indigenous Service Canada
- Assign and monitor work to ensure adherence to departmental goals and objectives and provincial requirements.
- Report all plans and deliverables to the Executive Director
- Work closely with the finance team to ensure seamless service delivery
- Monitor the budget and ensure alignment with standards
- A Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Social Work or human services-related field. Child and youth care, psychology, social science, or other related fields is required. A master's degree is preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of management/leadership experience
- Experience and knowledge of delegated duties with the Ministry of Child and Family Services, social services field, with emphasis on partner relationships, municipal or non-profit management, risk assessment, governance, and partnership development
- A solid understanding of the philosophy of prevention, protection and permanency and the ability to apply that understanding to families and communities.
- Knowledge and experience in financial planning, budgeting and reporting
- Demonstrate the ability to relate effectively to people of diverse economic, social and Cultural backgrounds.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills enhanced organizational and advanced computer skills
- Demonstrated experience working with community boards and volunteers.
- Knowledge of issues and practices of CFS and the impact on children and families; services to children, family dynamics, and an understanding of the sensitive situations families experience
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Excel (spreadsheets and pivot tables), Power Point, database applications, e-mail, team meetings, and video conferencing
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines and work without direct supervision
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean drivers abstract
- Fluency in Cree and/or Saulteaux is an asset
- Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector and Intervention Record Check

This full-time, permanent position entails full-time Monday through Friday. On-call work is required.
