Ecological Statistician

Position Details: Full-time, Permanent, Existing Vacancy
Salary: $81,300 - $101,600, based on a 35-hour work week. (Salary for this position will be commensurate with each individual's education and/or experience as it relates to the position).
Location: Oak Hammock Marsh, near Stonewall, MB with the flexibility of a hybrid schedule.

What You Will Do
We seek an Ecological Statistician to support the work of DUC scientists and provide quality assurance with respect to the conclusions and communication of DUC's scientific products. The Ecological Statistician consults with and guides IWWR and other DUC staff, students, and partners on issues of experimental design, sampling methodology, and statistical analyses. They will also conduct analyses and helps ensure that results are properly interpreted.
The Ecological Statistician regularly writes methods and data analysis sections of manuscripts and reports, and may occasionally present results or assist with continuing education activities (e.g., workshops or short courses). In addition to supporting DUC scientists in their research, the Ecological Statistician may conduct original independent research on statistical methodology relevant to IWWR’s mandate and will keep up to date through professional development activities, ensuring that advances in statistical theory and methodologies are incorporated into analyses where appropriate.
This position will require excellent relationship-building and communication skills, and a collaborative attitude. The ideal candidate will derive satisfaction from both the technical aspects of this role, but also from teaching and helping colleagues and using their skills to elevate the performance of the science team and DUC.

Requirements
- MSc or Ph D in Statistics. A graduate degree in Ecology with a minor in statistics, a strong quantitative background (i.e., Quantitative Ecology), or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience may be considered;
- Experience conducting statistical analyses and providing statistical support in an academic, consulting, or research environment. Experience should include multiple aspects of statistical support, including experimental design and sampling, data analysis, model interpretation, and clear communication of results in text and graphics. Experience working with ecological data and GIS would be an asset;
- Extensive experience with statistical programming packages (in particular, R; Python, SAS) and data management, cleaning, and archiving;
- Excellent communication and teaching skills, including ability to clearly explain complex information to non-technical audiences;
- Demonstrated ability to work both within a team and independently. Experience on multi-investigator teams is an asset;
- Adaptability to work on a variety of topics.
