Primary Location(s): Prince George and Fort St. John
Office or Field: Office and field. Flexible work schedule.
Travel: Field work and travel are expected. Varies by position.
Compensation: Compensation varies by position, typically $25 - $45 / hr plus overtime, travel, professional dues, benefits, vacation pay, RRSP program and year-end bonus. Variation in salary is determined by factors such as position sought, qualifications, professional status, relevant years of experience, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
Responsibilities:
- Environmental monitoring on small and large scale construction projects.
- Water quality monitoring using digital readers and collections for lab analysis.
- Fish and Wildlife salvages, habitat assessments, nest sweeps, plant surveys.
- Development of environmental mitigation measures.
- Inspection, installation and maintenance of erosion and sediment control devices.
- Development and implementation of Environmental Management Plans.
- Installation and maintenance of stream diversions.
- Spill Response.
- Revegetation applications.
- Complete stream classification as per provincial standards.
- Participate in survey crew to conduct fish sampling following a stringent protocol.
- Diploma, B.Sc or M.Sc in biology, natural resources, forestry or related field
- Desirable asset: Professional designation (R.PBio or RB.Tech, P.Ag, CPESC or equivalent) or eligibility within 6 months.
- Experience varies depending on the position, typically 1-3 years of demonstrated relevant work experience.
- Effective relationship, communication, and networking skills to cultivate relationships with clients, regulators, team members, community members, and First Nations.
- Record neat and accurate data into field forms and/or desktop computers.
- Technical and scientific report writing
- Basic understanding of applicable environmental legislation around protection of wildlife, fish and aquatic systems.
- Ability to operate a computer and various PC-based software programs.
- Enrolled in Environmental or Biology related diploma or degree program.
- Valid class 5 driver’s licence.
- Electrofishing Certification.
- Swiftwater Rescue Technician Certification.
- ATV/UTV certification.
- Experience operating 4x4 vehicles off-highway.
- Basic field orientation skills (mapping, compass, GPS).
- Ability to walk 5-8 km per day in inclement weather on uneven and slippery surfaces.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly throughout the day, every work day.
