Working for the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation (KSR) Steadward Centre
Our Steadward Centre team is working together to support the quality participation of adults, youth, and children experiencing disability in meaningful physical activity, para-sport, and recreation activities. As a non-profit centre, within the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation (KSR) at the University of Alberta, our focus on research and education allows us to deliver innovative programs and share knowledge and expertise with community recreation and physical activity leaders across Alberta. Position
The Experiential Learning Liaison, a new role at The Steadward Centre, will be involved in developing learning material and content to support the collaborative experiential learning activities between The Steadward Centre (TSC) and the Faculty of KSR. This position will also provide coaching and mentorship for students engaged in experiential learning activities. Specifically, the learning activities at TSC will include PALS (Physical Activity Led by Students) program sections and in-field learning experiences that are associated with undergraduate KSR courses. The Experiential Learning Liaison will also work with and engage individuals with lived disability experiences as they provide support with the development of e-learning materials (e.g., e-learning content) that will be used in the creation of micro-credentials (e.g., Becoming Para Ready) and volunteer development modules.
The Liaison will report to the Director and work with the Community Impact Coordinator, Fitness and Recreation Manager, and Partnerships and Para Sports Development Coordinator as needed to complete their activities
Duties
  • Use online platforms such as Canvas or Articulate to support the development of accessible e-learning materials for initiatives such as micro-credentials or volunteer development modules (e.g., videos, presentations, toolkits, resources lists)
  • Collaborate with individuals with lived disability experience to develop and deliver in-field learning sessions and e-learning materials
  • Provide coaching and mentorship for students involved in experiential learning activities at TSC
  • Develop and deliver physical activity & exercise programming for kids, youth, and adults experiencing disability
Minimum Qualifications
  • Degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Disability Studies, or a related field
  • First Aid and CPR level C required
  • Computer proficiency, with working knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point), Google Suite, Adobe
  • Knowledge of and experience using online learning platforms, such as Canvas & Articulate
  • Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Strong writing skills with an ability to attend to detail
  • Knowledge of and experience with instructing, coaching, and/or mentoring others
  • Ability to work effectively and independently in a team environment
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility standards
Preferred Qualifications
  • A master's degree is considered an asset
  • Lived disability experience as an asset
  • Experience in post-secondary setting an asset
  • Familiarity with the disability community and the University of Alberta is an asset
