You are both dependable and reliable, the team member everyone can trust. You approach tasks with foresight, ensuring everything is well-organized, and communicate with clarity and confidence. As a natural leader, you inspire and motivate those around you to exceed expectations. Your strong attention to detail, collaborative mindset, and unwavering drive make you a valuable and effective partner in any team setting. With your skills, you’ll thrive in this role — it’s just the "log-ical" choice!
As the Log Buckerman, you'll play a key role in supporting the Woodlands Scalers with their log scaling tasks. Your primary responsibility will be marking and bucking tree-length coniferous and deciduous sample loads to the required lengths. When not focused on bucking, you'll assist the Scalers by taking log measurements, performing quality assessments, and contributing to overall scaling operations. In addition to these core duties, you'll be involved in occasional inspections, equipment maintenance, and general housekeeping to ensure smooth operations. Canfor will provide comprehensive on-site training, so you’ll be fully prepared to excel in this role. Your work will be essential in maintaining the efficiency and quality of the woodlands team. The position is a 6-month term, running from October to March, with a schedule of Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The life of the Log Buckerman includes:
- Participate in required Staff and/or Contractor Safety and/or Environmental Training consistent with Canfor expectations and standards. Conduct all activities in accordance with Canfor’s Woodlands Occupational Health & Safety Program and Forest Management System (FMS);
- Ensure maintenance and proper use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times (will be provided)
- Inspect and maintain chainsaw equipment, regular calibration of log measuring devices, and maintaining facilities according to Canfor standards
- Ensure understanding of the required log lengths required for log scaling according to Canfor standards
- Measure and mark Tree-Length (TL) Conifer (eg. Spruce, Pine, etc.) and Deciduous (e.g. Aspen, Poplar, etc.) sample loads according to Canfor procedures
- Work with Woodlands Scalers to ensure safe bucking of Tree-Length (TL) Conifer and Deciduous sample loads while meeting production and quality objectives
For this role, come equipped with:
- Maintain a valid Class 5 Drivers License
- Certification in Chainsaw Operation
- Physically fit to handle the demands of the role
- Capable of working outdoors in winter conditions
Ideally, you also possess Standard First Aid certification and have prior experience operating and maintaining a chainsaw.
