Location and Reporting Structure

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a range of heavy equipment, including but not limited to finish excavator, wristed twist, hoe pack & hoe ram (20 ton to 40 ton), dyke construction, heavy civil, multi plate bridge profiles, pipe bedding and backfill;
• Execute precise and efficient earthmoving tasks, including excavation, grading, backfilling, and other activities required for mining operations;
• Operating heavy equipment on adverse terrain safely, and following directions as provided by the supervisor;
• Load, unload, and identify construction materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations;
• Identify and report deficiencies in site operating equipment as required to management. Liaise with site maintenance team to completed scheduled and unscheduled repair and maintenance of equipment as necessary;
• Clean and prepare sites to eliminate possible hazards e.g. tripping hazards; and ensure all safety standards are met;
• Keep entrances clear of garbage and unwanted items in accordance with site standards;
• Participate in daily safety toolbox meetings to promote B2Gold Nunavut’s safety standards and ensure compliance;
• Document safety infractions and report deficiencies and concerns to supervisors; and
• Potential supervisory and mentoring duties requirements as needed.

Desired Competencies and Requirements

• Five (5) plus years’ experience operating heavy equipment required on civil/earthworks jobs (preferably in mining environment);
• Completion of High school diploma or GED;
• Heavy Equipment Operating Certification considered an asset; and
• Valid driver’s license required.
