Organization Overview
RISEC Community Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the successful transition of newcomers in Canada, providing them with the resources, guidance, and support they need for settlement, education, and career success. Our goal is to foster a welcoming and inclusive community for all newcomers.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and visionary Volunteer Editor-in-Chief to lead our magazine’s editorial team. This role is perfect for someone with a strong editorial background who is passionate about storytelling and community service. As the Editor-in-Chief, you will work closely with the Program Director, Managing Editor, and Magazine Designers to ensure the publication meets the highest standards of quality and relevance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Editorial Vision: Set the editorial direction and tone for Canadian Horizons Magazine, ensuring content aligns with the Foundation’s mission and goals.
- Oversee Content Development: Manage the content planning, article assignment, and editorial calendar to ensure timely publication of issues.
- Edit and Approve Content: Review, edit, and approve all content for accuracy, clarity, and consistency before publication.
- Collaborate with Team: Work hand in hand with the Program Director, Managing Editor, and Magazine Designers to develop cohesive, visually appealing issues.
- Mentor and Guide Writers: Provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship to the editorial team and volunteer writers to enhance their skills and contributions.
- Maintain Editorial Standards: Ensure all content adheres to high editorial standards, including grammar, style, and ethical considerations.
- Stay Updated on Trends: Keep abreast of industry trends and best practices to continually improve the magazine’s content and format.
- Represent the Magazine: Act as the public face of the magazine, representing it at community events and in communication with stakeholders.
- Editorial Experience: Proven experience in an editorial role, preferably as an Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, or Senior Editor.
- Strong Writing and Editing Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Leadership Ability: Strong leadership and team management skills to guide the editorial team effectively.
- Collaborative Spirit: Ability to work collaboratively with the Program Director, Managing Editor, and Magazine Designers to produce high-quality content.
- Creative Vision: Ability to think creatively and develop engaging content that resonates with the community.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Passion for Community Service: A genuine passion for storytelling and making a positive impact on the community.
