Product Manager (Payroll, Costa Rica)

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Product Manager with a strong background in payroll solutions targeting the U.S. market. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of payroll systems, compliance requirements, and customer needs in this space with hands-on experience building or supporting US based payroll application(s). You will be responsible for driving the development and execution of our payroll product strategy, ensuring it meets the specific needs of U.S.-based businesses in the Construction industry and complies with federal, state, and local regulations.Join a very exciting, fast-growing Fin Tech startup and be part of an innovative team that is transforming the construction industry with a disruptive Workforce management suite of products. Key Responsibilities:
Product Strategy & Roadmap:- Develop and maintain the product roadmap for our payroll solution, ensuring alignment with company objectives and U.S. market requirements.
- Conduct market research and competitor analysis specifically focused on payroll solutions in the U.S. to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
- Define and prioritize product features, enhancements, and new product ideas based on customer feedback, regulatory changes, and business goals
- Collaborate with other product managers, engineering, design, and sales teams to ensure the successful development and launch of payroll features that meet U.S. regulatory standards and exceed customers’ expectations.
- Write clear and detailed product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria with a focus on payroll processing, tax compliance, and reporting.
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and daily stand-ups to ensure timely delivery of payroll product features.
- Ensure product features are implemented on-time and with high quality.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work closely with sales, marketing, and customer support teams to gather insights and feedback from customers using our payroll solutions.
- Act as the voice of the customer, ensuring that their payroll processing needs and pain points are addressed in product development.
- Communicate payroll product vision, strategy, and progress to stakeholders and leadership.
Compliance & Regulatory Requirements:
- Stay up-to-date with U.S. payroll regulations, including federal, state, and local tax laws, and ensure product compliance.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to address any regulatory changes that impact our payroll solution.
- Ensure that the payroll solution supports accurate tax calculations, timely filings, and reporting requirements.
- Experience with prevailing wage and union payroll processing and reporting highly desired
- Monitor and analyze payroll product performance metrics, including user engagement, accuracy of tax calculations, and customer satisfaction.
- Identify areas for improvement in the payroll solution and work with cross-functional teams to implement changes.
- Prepare and present payroll product performance reports to stakeholders and leadership
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in payroll management.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior product team members, especially in the area of payroll solutions.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve payroll product management processes and tools.
- Be flexible to join team and customer calls in the US-based timezone(s) when required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field. MBA preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience in product management, with at least 2 years focused on payroll solutions targeting the U.S. market.
- Experience with payroll software and tools, as well as Agile methodologies and product management tools (e.g., JIRA, Trello, Aha!).
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of U.S. payroll regulations, including federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
