The Neuroimaging Unit and the Applied Cognitive Neuropsychology Lab at the School of Human Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Oldenburg is seeking to fill the position of a
Scientific Software Engineer or Data Scientist (m/f/d)
(Salary level E13 TVL, 100%)
for the development of tools and processing pipelines for open and reproducible neuroimaging
The position is embedded in a DFG Core Facility grant and is available as soon as possible until 31st of December 2026 (with the possibility for extension after successful project evaluation). The position is suitable for part-time work.
The Neuroimaging Unit hosts a state-of-the-art MEG (Elekta Triux) and an MRI (Siemens Prisma 3T). The core facility is internationally well connected in the open neuroimaging community and has developed software tools such as ancp BIDS, meg QC, has hosted international workshops on open neuroimaging and published tutorial material (see e.g. https://oreoni.github.io/).
The aim of the project is to develop tools and design practices that improve the transparency, reproducibility and high throughput processing of neuroimaging data. Tasks include implementation of tools for FAIR data generation and reproducible analysis pipelines based on open standards, organization and execution of international workshops, contribution to open science community efforts, and dissemination through journal publications.
Applicants are expected to have a university degree (Diploma (Uni) or Masters) in Computer Science, Engineering, Neuroscience or Psychology and a proven ability to produce excellent scientific work with an outstanding publication record. A successful candidate is required to have enthusiasm for Open Science, some programming experience in Python, experience with neuroimaging techniques and data analysis (especially f MRI or MEG/EEG), and fluency in English. Experience with open science tools and standards (e.g. BIDS), other neurophysiological modalities, organizing scientific events and knowledge of German are a plus.
