Job Description

The New York Times is seeking a smart, ambitious sales professional to grow our group digital subscription business, based in our Hong Kong office. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment with multiple stakeholders and on a multinational team. Primary focus is new business development through the sale of large institution-wide site license programs to government, universities, high schools, other relevant institutions, and business corporations for Asia Pacific. A solid sales development background and a good understanding of the Asia Pacific education system are key assets for this position. This role will report to our Executive Vice President, Asia Pacific.
Main responsibilities:
  • Identify and develop new sales opportunities within K12 and higher education
  • Identify and develop new sales opportunities in the corporate segment, including government, library, non-profit, private institutions, media etc
  • Meet and exceed individual revenue sales goals
  • Build solid relationships with all prospective and new clients
  • Thoroughly understand the B2B sales program offerings and NYT digital products, and actively keep abreast of business and technical developments that impact them
  • Actively assist in the development of sales and marketing strategies, including recommending specific external advertising/event opportunities and tactics to improve closure and response rates
  • Attend relevant industry events around the country and represent The New York Times ambitious international readership development efforts
Our ideal candidate:
  • Strong experience in sales and/or marketing, within the higher education or media sales sector
  • Passion for The New York Times journalism and product experience
  • Very strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to sell effectively in-person, virtually and/or by email
  • Strong negotiation and deal-making skills
  • Strong client management skills across all management levels, including students, librarians, and corporate senior executives
  • Focus and strong sense of urgency to build a pipeline of business and close deals
  • Past experience with a relevant client base, particularly in education
  • Organized, accurate, flexible, and self-motivated
  • Comfortable and competent working with data, online research, performance analyses
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks and meet varying deadlines
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency (incl. Salesforce)
  • Ability to travel to cover the APAC territory (You will be traveling up to 30% of the time in this role)
