Job Summary

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council was established in 1994 and is part of the Dublin Region. There are 40 Elected Members and a staff complement of over 1,200. It is home to 233,457 people in over 78,600 households. The County has both the lowest unemployment rate and the highest level of educational attainment of any County in the State as well as a unique array of economic activities that span from existing cultural, technological and educational establishments – including UCD, IADT and IMI – to high tech, pharmaceutical, financial and services sectors. It also has significant potential as an amenity and tourism destination for the Region both for Dublin residents and visitors.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council performs a significant role in shaping the strategic vision of the County. It provides a diverse, comprehensive and evolving range of services to citizens, businesses and visitors to the County which include the provision of housing, planning, development, environmental, transportation, leisure and community services.

A vacancy currently exists for Director of Services in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Director will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team and will be expected to fulfil a key role in the Local Authority with responsibility for the delivery of programmes and functions/services of the Local Authority. The role involves considerable engagement and consensus building with Elected Members, staff as well as other external stakeholders.

In addition, the Director provides policy support and advice for members of the Strategic Policy Committees, the Local Community Development Committee and any other relevant Committees. Senior managers are responsible for the delivery of high-quality services and planning for the future needs of a thriving county with a growing population.
Delivery of efficient services and value for money is crucial as is the management and motivation of staff.
