Duties:
1. Drink Preparation

• Espresso-Based Drinks: Preparing coffee drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, and americanos using espresso machines.
• Brewing Coffee: Operating coffee machines to brew various types of coffee, ensuring the correct brewing methods are used.
• Tea and Other Beverages: Preparing teas, hot chocolate, smoothies, and other non-coffee beverages.
• Customization: Making drinks to order according to customer preferences (e.g., decaf, dairy-free, extra shots, flavoured syrups).

2. Customer Service

• Greeting Customers: Welcoming customers as they enter and assisting them with menu choices.
• Taking Orders: Listening to customer preferences, answering questions about the menu, and inputting orders accurately.
• Handling Complaints: Addressing customer complaints or concerns in a polite and efficient manner, offering solutions when needed.
• Engagement: Building rapport with regular customers to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

3. Food Handling (if applicable)

• Serving Pastries and Snacks: Preparing or serving light meals, pastries, or pre-made food items, depending on the café’s offerings.
• Food Safety: Adhering to food safety regulations and maintaining cleanliness in food preparation areas.

4. Cash Handling

• Operating the Register: Processing customer payments, managing cash registers, and handling various payment methods (cash, credit cards, etc.).
• Tipping and Change: Managing tips, providing correct change, and balancing the register at the end of shifts.

5. Cleanliness and Maintenance

• Cleaning Machines and Equipment: Regularly cleaning coffee machines, grinders, blenders, and other equipment to ensure proper function and hygiene.
• Sanitation: Cleaning the barista station, washing dishes, wiping tables, and maintaining a tidy café environment.
• Restocking Supplies: Monitoring stock levels (cups, milk, coffee beans, etc.), and restocking ingredients and products as needed.

6. Inventory and Ordering

• Monitoring Inventory: Keeping track of inventory levels of coffee, milk, syrups, and other supplies, notifying management when stock is low.
• Receiving Deliveries: Accepting and organizing deliveries, ensuring all products meet quality standards.

7. Specialty Skills

• Latte Art: Creating attractive latte art (designs with steamed milk) to enhance the presentation of drinks.
• Product Knowledge: Being knowledgeable about the origin of coffee beans, brewing techniques, and the café’s specialty drinks to make informed recommendations.

8. Team Collaboration

• Assisting Co-workers: Helping other staff during busy periods by taking orders, preparing food, or clearing tables.
• Shift Management: Working closely with the team to ensure smooth operations and efficient service during shifts.

9. Adhering to Health and Safety Regulations

• Compliance: Following all health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe environment for both staff and customers.
• Temperature Control: Ensuring that milk and other perishables are stored at the correct temperature and used within safe time frames.

A successful barista combines excellent customer service with technical coffee-making skills, often working in a fast-paced environment to deliver high-quality drinks and a great customer experience.
