We are seeking a chef to join us from May to the end of September in our busy Middle Eastern deli. The role is temporary but there may be an option to extend the contract beyond September. We are open to chefs from different levels of experience (min. 2 years) to apply to work with Dvir, head chef and co-owner and the growing kitchen team.
Mezze is a small family food venture run by Irish-Israeli couple Nicola and Dvir in the seaside town of Tramore, Co. Waterford. Tramore has been described as a 'burgeoning foodie destination' (Gastro Gays, RTE, September 2021) with renowned food establishments such as Seagull sourdough bakery and Beach House restaurant. It is also home to great surf, gorgeous swimming spots and long beach walks.
Our food is simple and flavourful inspired by the Middle East. We make the food we love in Mezze; falafels, dips, spreads and salads. Salad is served for breakfast, lunch and dinner in Israel and that’s what we do in Mezze.
We're a small business with big dreams and in 2022 our team won Best World Cuisine in Ireland at the Irish Restaurant Awards as well as the Waterford award for Best Customer Service. In 2022 we also self-published our own cookbook 'Middle Eastern Food Made to Share' which has received great reviews from journalists, food critics, and home cooks.
We have a team of 11 employees but our little deli is getting busier and we are preparing to grow even more. The successful candidate will work with Mezze owners Nicola and Dvir, and our fab team to ensure the best customer service, a clean and safe enviromnent, and be part of the team preparing fabulous flavour-filled Middle Eastern foods.

Job description

• 5 days a week
• Tuesday to Saturday
• 6-7.5 hours a day

Job requirements

• 2 year's experience
• Experience preparing fresh foods such as salads, Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine
• Restaurant/cafe kitchen experience
• Ability to multi-task and work efficiently
• The capability to work safely and neatly
• Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends
• Genuine interest in vegetarian and Middle Eastern foods

Key Chef responsibilities:

• Work as part of the team with shop and deli staff and management to provide the highest standard of food preparation quality and presentation agreed with Mezze owners Dvir and Nicola
• Prepare goods (mainly salads, dips & preserves) for the deli, shop, catering, and events
• Adhere to the HACCP programme for the deli kitchen to ensure effective standards in line with hygiene and quality regulations.
• Manage and control costs associated with food production and wastage
• Ensure the regular and systematic cleaning and maintenance of the equipment and preparation areas in the deli and kitchen
• Ensure that all reasonable care is taken for the health and safety of yourself, other employees and other persons on the premises and to observe all health and safety procedures and rules
• Report for duty at the arranged time and in the correct clothing/uniform
