Universal Support Worker

ALONE support older people to age at home. We provide direct, frontline services to people aged 60 and over, through support coordination, support and befriending, housing with support, and the application of assistive technology. We have a network of staff and more than 3,000 volunteers across the country We have been awarded Quality Marks from Volunteer Ireland, the ISO, the Charities Regulator and the Housing Regulatory Standard.


We are now recruiting a Universal Support Worker.

Role Overview
The Universal Support Worker will provide direct, frontline services to enable older people to live independently through the provision of housing with support, visitation and befriending supports, and the implementation of assistive technology.
In this role the Universal Support Worker will provide person-centered care and support to older people with diverse needs to enable them to safely live independently. You will support older people in their own homes, promoting independence with personal care and providing practical and emotional support, in line with each wellbeing and support plan.


You will report directly to the Housing with Support Scheme Manager.



Responsibilities


  • Enable older people to make choices, express their needs and views and set goals within support plans that align with the goals and wishes of the older person.
  • Promote independence and support with housekeeping tasks including maintaining the safety, hygiene, and comfort of the older person’s home, providing assistance as needed.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) while promoting maximum independence and tailoring care to the specific needs of the older person.
  • Assess and identify the needs of the older people through comprehensive assessments (in person or by phone), aiming to resolve challenges and mitigate potential risks.
  • Liaise with the older person’s healthcare provider, consultants, GPs and primary care teams to report concerns including functional or cognitive decline.
  • Record keeping and report writing on ALONE’s CRM (Customer Relationship Management) database.
  • Implement and manage the distribution, installation, and responsiveness to technology that enhance older people's well-being and safety within their homes.
  • Adhere to fire safety protocols, and Health and Safety guidelines in line with policy and procedure.
  • Take appropriate action in the event of emergencies and critical incidents, following processes and procedures as necessary.
  • Any other duties within the general requirements of the above that may be assigned.


Essential Skills & Experience


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Minimum 6-months – 1 year experience providing frontline client-centered supports.
  • Module QQI Level 5 in Care Skills or Module QQI Level 5 Care of the Older Person is essential.
  • Diploma, Certificate, or Degree in relevant areas of community, social care, or related fields, is desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in working with older people and be committed to ALONE’s vision and mission, including ensuring that older people can age happily and securely at home and are strongly connected to their local communities.
  • Ability to maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, discretion, and respect.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), and the ability to network and cooperate well with individuals, groups, and stakeholders, is essential.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good computer literacy, with experience of using case management systems, is desirable.
  • Excellent organisational skills, report writing, solution-focused skills and multi-tasking skills are desirable.
  • Excellent active listening skills.
  • A passion for providing a high quality of service is essential.
