Université du Luxembourg

Postdoctoral Researcher in Contemporary Social History

Luxembourg

CONTRACT

September 3, 2024

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.
The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) at the University of Luxembourg is an interdisciplinary research centre committed to high-quality research and public dissemination in the field of contemporary history with a particular focus on digital methods and tools.
The C²DH's ambition is to venture off the beaten track and find new ways of doing, teaching and presenting contemporary history of Luxembourg and the history of Europe in the 20th and 21st centuries. It serves as a catalyst for innovative and creative scholarship and new forms of public dissemination.

In partnership with the Observatoire national de l’enfance, de la jeunesse et de la qualité scolaire, the C2DH is conducting a research and documentation project on child day care, child and youth welfare, and youth protection in Luxembourg from the 1970s to the present day. The aim of this collaborative project is to contextualize the interpretation of historical data on the situation of children and young people, as well as the systems and policies of childcare and child and youth protection in Luxembourg. The project explores how society, science, and politics have evolved and shaped the world of children and young people in Luxembourg today. It involves gathering and documenting the ‘Zeitgeist’ of (a) daycare provisions for children aged 0 to 12 (from socio-educational daycare homes to education and reception services, also referred to as non-formal education) and (b) child and youth protection and its legal framework.
We are seeking a scholar in the field of contemporary social history to conduct research in cooperation with the Observatoire national de l’enfance, de la jeunesse et de la qualité scolaire. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in an international and interdisciplinary team with renowned experts in the domains of social history, childcare provisions, and child and youth protection.

To this end, the Postdoctoral Researcher will organize witness seminars in collaboration with the Observatoire national de l’enfance, de la jeunesse et de la qualité scolaire. The Postdoctoral Researcher will also produce research outputs. The collected materials and the research undertaken will form the basis for defining the next stages of the work to be carried out.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and organize four witness seminars on the contemporary history of childcare and child and youth protection, and publish the edited transcriptions of these seminars in collaboration with the Observatoire national de l’enfance, de la jeunesse et de la qualité scolaire
