Play a vital role in supporting academic excellence at the University of Otago, as an Administrator for the Graduate Research School.
The Graduate Research School oversees graduate research study at the University of Otago. They provide policy advice for doctoral and research Masters' degrees, have oversight of all administrative matters related to the Ph D programme, provide targeted support for Māori postgraduates, have oversight of postgraduate researcher and supervisor development, and work with the University community to enhance the graduate research culture.
The role/Te Mahi
You will provide a range of administrative activities, including workshop administration, meeting support, organising travel, and directing student and staff queries.
This is a busy role with lots of variety. You will have regular contact with staff and students, be empathetic yet resilient, and be able to prioritise well.
You will work with a diverse team of administrators supporting corporate services across the University and may be required to assist in other areas as needed.

Along with excellent administration skills, a strong customer service focus is critical to success in this role.
We are looking for candidates with:
  • Knowledge of the University and understanding of its processes. Familiarity with Graduate Research is beneficial.
  • A passion for delivering exceptional service to a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • A willingness to be adaptable and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programmes.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • A self-starter attitude and the ability to work as part of a team and individually.

  • A commitment to working in a culturally safe and respectful manner and demonstrated understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, and Pasifika values.
About our team/Mō te tīma
Divisional Services and Administration is a team of highly skilled professional staff, responsible for delivering an outstanding student and staff experience to all the University’s internal and external customers.

This is a fixed-term (12-month), full time (37.5 hours) position, located in Dunedin.
The appointments range for this role is $59,285 to $63,651. Top of range $68,744.
We also have Kaiwhakahaere Tari positions available. These roles are part of the Administrator function but in addition they support the implementation of the Māori Strategic Framework activities, the University’s commitment to the success of Māori students and staff and contribute to a culture of whakawhanaungatanga in our workplaces. These positions are remunerated at Level 5, with the appointment range $65,281 to $69,648.
