Chief Financial Officer

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is the financial leader of the organisation – providing strategic financial advice and driving the utilisation of resources in a way that supports the goals of the organisation. The CFO will motivate team members at all levels to partner and collaborate in the achievement of financial sustainability. The CFO will bring a rigorous and innovative approach to the HNZ budget, operational and capital plans, and financial and non-financial performance monitoring – providing the CEO, Board, Ministers, and Government Agencies with confidence in the use of public funds.
The finance function is undergoing a significant period of change – resetting to align with HNZ's move to four integrated regions. This is a time of pivotal transformation, where the contributions of this role will play a vital part in advancing the commitment to a more accessible, cohesive, and people-centered health system.
The role and the organisation are highly complex, so candidates will need to be experienced in leading a finance workforce in a large-scale organisation with multiple and complex stakeholder interests. The incoming CFO will have managed significant budgets and will have experience in leading through transformational change.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Demonstrable system-wide experience in leading and managing through transformational system change
- Significant experience at an executive level in a large public facing organisation offering a diverse range of services/products to a large and diverse consumer/customer base
- Demonstrable experience in leading and managing a large finance workforce with high standards of accounting and financial management acumen
- Significant experience working with governance stakeholders to build trust and confidence e.g. Board, shareholders
- Experience managing large operating and capital budgets ($1bn+)
- Experience managing complex supply chains and network of third-party suppliers and extracting value
- Intellectual capability to think creatively and work collaboratively with the CEO, governance, clinical and management leadership to collectively problem solve complex issues
- A relevant graduate and post-graduate financial qualification that includes a Chartered Professional Qualification in accountancy
- A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions. This includes an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in this role
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
