Our team/Mō te tīma
Student Health Services (SHS) provide a full range of primary health care services for students at the University of Otago. We have an experienced team of GPs, Nurses, Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Administration staff who provide approximately 50,000 appointments per annum. The large and diverse health team and the distinctive campus provide a stimulating and challenging multidisciplinary work environment.

The role/Te mahi
As our Clinical Assistant, you will join a large multidisciplinary health care team in providing primary health services to all eligible students. Your role will be to provide clinical support (including patient recalls, chaperoning, equipment loan & result management) to the team at SHS to ensure the provision and delivery of high-quality healthcare.
Some key tasks will also include:
  • Ordering & replenishing of stock & equipment.
  • Ensuring the service meets infection control, decontamination & sterilisation standards.
  • Provide general administrative assistance.
  • Assist with emergency planning.
Skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
  • Qualification or body of knowledge appropriate to the role, such as Infection Control/Sterilisation Certificate/Primary Care Practice Assistance Certificate.
  • Experience coordinating usage and purchasing of clinical supplies, sterilisation and equipment maintenance.
  • Experience with clinical support such as chaperoning clinical procedures and clinical admin tasks.
  • Competent in using technical health software, proficiency in the Microsoft suite of programmes; well-developed keyboard and word-processing skills, ability to easily grasp new processes and technologies.
  • Experience in building and fostering positive work relationships and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation relevant to health and patient services.

This is a permanent, part-time (30 hours per week) position, located in Dunedin. This is a Monday-Friday position.
The appointment range for this role is $59,285 to $63,651 per annum. Top of the range is $68,744 (pro-rata).
