Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are on the lookout for a Professional Teaching Fellow to join our Engineering Science and Biomedical Engineering team. In this role you will undertake high quality teaching into the undergraduate programmes delivered by the Department of Engineering Science and Biomedical Engineering; to lead, plan and deliver lectures, laboratories, tutorials and the assessment of students, and to assist with the administration of the taught programme.
The role will also require teaching a block course on introductory operations research and mathematical modelling at least once a year over 3 weeks at Northeastern University (NEU) in Qinghuangdao, China. The role would provide the opportunity for leadership and coordination of resources in support of possible collaboration with academics at NEU.Additional responsibilities of the role include:
- Develop, in collaboration with colleagues, curricula and pedagogy for the delivery of courses in engineering science.
- Coordinate and administer teaching laboratory activities in consultation with other colleagues and laboratory technicians.
- Engage in Service to the Department of Engineering Science and Biomedical Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering and the University of Auckland, e.g., Student Field Trips, Community Outreach (and other duties as required by the Head of Department).

Our suitable candidate will meet the requirements below:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Science, Applied Math, Computational Engineering Physics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computational/Numerical modelling, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to teach at undergraduate level.
- Demonstrated ability to use a range of teaching techniques and technologies to deliver an excellent student experience.
- Be able to teach the undergraduate courses ENGSCI 255 (Modelling and Analytics in Operations Research) and 331 (Computational Techniques 2).
- Be able to teach aspects of Mathematical Modelling and Machine Learning.
- Ability to interact well with undergraduate students.
- Ability to create and maintain an outstanding teaching and learning environment.
- Good written and communication skills.
- Ability to innovate in the delivery of taught materials.
- Competence using the Python programming language.
