Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
In this senior academic role, the Professor of Finance will advance high-quality research and teaching in the field of finance.
Key focus areas include:
  • Leading and contributing to high-quality research in finance, with a focus on publishing in top-tier journals and disseminating research through other relevant channels.
  • Delivering inspiring and effective teaching, incorporating authentic, practice-based assessments that prepare students for real-world challenges.
  • Mentoring and supporting the professional development of early and mid-career researchers, contributing to the strategic growth of the department.
  • Engaging with industry and professional organisations to enhance the profile and impact of the department and research centre's profile and impact.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the finance curriculum, ensuring it aligns with global trends and local needs.
  • Demonstrating academic leadership by participating in school and department initiatives, including as Head of Department for an intended initial period of three years.

We welcome applications from internationally recognised scholars with a distinguished track record in finance research, teaching, and leadership in tertiary education contexts. Along with your CV, please submit a cover letter outlining your research and teaching philosophy, your vision for finance education and research at AUT, and how your (leadership) experience aligns with the key criteria outlined below:
  • A Ph D in Finance or a closely related field, with a strong foundation in Economics.
  • An outstanding record of research, including editorship and publications in leading finance journals, and demonstrated ability to lead research projects.
  • Extensive experience in teaching, curriculum development, and postgraduate supervision.
  • A proven track record of building and sustaining connections with industry, government, and professional bodies.
  • Formal academic leadership experience at a senior level
  • A commitment to promoting an inclusive, diverse, and dynamic academic culture, and to fulfilling responsibilities under Te Aronui, AUT's Te Tiriti Responsiveness Framework.
