The National Institute for Stroke and Applied Neuroscience is a growing and dynamic research institute. The Institute aims to improve the health of people at risk of stroke and other neurological conditions as well as the recovery of people experiencing neurological conditions. NISAN is conducting a full-scale randomised controlled trial named "Digital technologies for stroke prevention: A randomised controlled trial (Digit S)" to determine the efficacy and uptake of a web app for clinicians combined with a mobile app for secondary stroke prevention in adults (35-79 years) with a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or minor stroke. This research is funded by the Health Research Council of New Zealand.
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
The Research Assistant (RA) will be part of a Digit S trial. They will organise face-to-face clinic visits with participants and in-person visits as well as completing online and/or telephone questionnaires at varying time points throughout the trial.
The Research Assistant will be primarily responsible for consenting and conducting telephone and face-to-face health assessments along with other follow-up activities with study participants.

We are looking for someone based at Whangārei with excellent communication skills and prior experience working on health research projects.
The applicant must be:
  • able to multi-task and have excellent time management skills
  • able to work independently
  • flexible in their working hours
  • experienced in problem-solving with excellent interpersonal skills
  • be willing to travel to participants' homes for data collection
The successful applicants will work in partnership with others on the research team to actively contribute to the successful completion of all study aims and objectives. The collaborative nature of the study will necessitate excellent working relationships with a variety of partners.
A current driver's licence and access to transport are also required. Weekend and evening work may be required.
Previous experience working in a research/health and/or community-based role and a post-graduate health-related qualification will be an advantage.
