Dementia Prevention Research Clinics, School of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences
The New Zealand Dementia Prevention Research Clinics is a longitudinal research study investigating factors that influence the development and progression of memory problems in New Zealanders. In our national network of Dementia Prevention Research Clinics we are investigating a wide range of factors including things we can measure from clinical assessment, brain scans, measures of memory and thinking abilities, blood samples, and lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, mental stimulation and social interactions.

The Auckland Dementia Prevention Research Clinic seeks to appoint a Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist for its Tissue Bank. The vacancy would suit a candidate with a BSc, BMLS or equivalent degree.

The applicant would need to be available to help with daily early morning blood collections and processing. Ideally the applicant should have experience working with human samples, blood and tissue, particularly sterile preparation techniques as well as general laboratory skill including DNA/RNA extraction. Data entry competence, comfort interacting with participants, and meticulous attention to detail are also required.
Other duties will include ensuring maintenance of the facility, laboratory equipment, supplies and supporting laboratory compliance with University codes of practice.
This is a fulltime (37.5 hours per week), fixed term (12 months) position. The salary range for this role is Band E, between $58,300 - $72,700 based on skills and experience. The position is primarily based at the University of Auckland, Grafton campus.

This position would suit someone who is flexible, well organised and able to multi-task, is self-motivated, industrious and has initiative. The candidate must also be able to work both independently and as part of a team and have an ability to adapt and develop new skills. This position will support the collection and processing of blood samples and administration needs of the Auckland Dementia Prevention Research Clinic.
