Ko te tīma - About our team
You will be working with other MHF professionals that share a passion for preventing and reducing the risk of catastrophic harm from chemical incidents occurring in New Zealand. We are a multidisciplinary team and actively share our knowledge and experience with an appetite for learning even more about process safety.
Ō te tūranga - About the role
As a Specialist Health & Safety Inspector, you will bring process safety related skills gained in a major hazard facility (MHF) or similar environment (such as a chemical plant), with technical skills in a relevant discipline such as mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering, or the sciences.
You will strive to build positive working relationships within the industry, undertaking a range of advisory, inspection, compliance and enforcement-related activities to ensure organisations are effectively managing the health and safety of their workplaces.
We will provide you with the opportunity to influence health and safety outcomes at major hazard facilities and truly make a difference.
Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do:
- Influence, facilitate and guide the future of health and safety in the MHF sector.
- Build positive working relationships within the industry.
- Undertake a range of guidance, inspection, compliance and enforcement-related activities to ensure organisations are effectively managing the health and safety of their workplaces.
- Significant experience in a senior technical or management position within an MHF, petroleum or geothermal industry
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to communicate information, concepts and arguments effectively
- Good knowledge of the applicable health and safety requirements, standards, and legislation
- Demonstrates commitment and consistency in working for an organisation
- Effective relationship skills so you can encourage and support positive developments or take resolute regulatory action on areas of non-compliance
- Team skills to engage and interact with colleagues, share information and ideas
- The ability to remain calm and level-headed under pressure or when responding to emergency situations
- A current driver's licence is essential
- Ability to travel nationally (by air) for work at short notice if required
- Willingness to undertake training for certificate of appointment
- Appropriate physical fitness to be able to walk around large industrial sites, climb up large fuel tanks

Awhe utu - Salary range
As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $151,315 to $199,943, and our expected starting base salary for the right person is from $163,581 to $173,395 Note: Kiwi Saver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional to/on top of your base salary.
