Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
The Trainee Cardiac Sonographer is required to undertake a training programme in cardiac ultrasound (Echocardiography) by:

• Achievement of the Graduate Diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound (QUT) or University of Auckland (Uo A) PGDip Cardiac Ultrasound
• Gaining clinical experience, understanding and demonstrate practical competency in performing, interpreting and reporting transthoracic cardiac ultrasound examinations.

Competency is evaluated by department competency assessments and training guidelines. Qualification must be achieved within a 2 year time period from the first available QUT/Uo A enrolment date after commencement of employment. Following successful completion of the QUT Graduate Diploma or Uo A PGDip qualification, the position description/position code is updated to the status of Cardiac Sonographer.

The role holder will be based across Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley sites and perform adult cardiac \ transthoracic (TTE) scans under supervision.

Knowledge and experience:

• Must have a keen interest and knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology
• Prior experience with cardiac physiology work is desirable

Essential Professional Qualifications / Accreditations / Registrations:

• Bachelor of Science Degree with major in physiology
• Be eligible to complete Graduate Diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound (QUT) or PGDip Cardiac Ultrasound (Uo A)
• Expected to complete Graduate Diploma in Cardiac Ultrasound (QUT) or PGDip Cardiac Ultrasound (Uo A) within a 2 year time period. Both programmes are financially supported by Wellington Regional Hospital.
• Be eligible to register as a trainee Cardiac Sonographer with MRTB
