Purpose of the Job
The primary objective of this role is to ensure the quality and food safety of our Private Label and Branded products. This involves implementing and managing the Quality Assurance (QA) system within the specific category, as well as advising, monitoring, and providing technical guidance to the suppliers/manufacturers. The focus is on maintaining food safety, legal, and quality compliance. This role also includes the role of a divisional support technologist, supporting divisions at store level with regards to legal requirements and technical food safety-related matters.

Job Objectives
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that suppliers and manufacturers meet Shoprite Checkers' food safety standards and legal requirements. Ensure compliance with shelf life, nutritional analysis, and labelling regulations.
- Quality Control: Ensure that suppliers produce our products according to the specifications and standards set by the development team.
- Customer Complaints: Investigate customer complaints to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Divisional Support: Provide technical support to the divisions at store-level regarding food safety and regulated hygiene matters.
- Accountable for providing QA related information to enable effective decision-making and prioritisation of activities within the Private Label team.
- Assist with sourcing from local and international suppliers by completing/ verifying detailed QA documentation and audits.
Qualifications
Essential
BSc Food Science / Technology or Microbiology or equivalent degree
ISO, HACCP, GMP and hygiene training certificates or as relevant
Experience
Essential
+3 years' experience in a similar Food technologist / Quality Assurance / Food safety role in a Foods FMCG environment.
QA orientated exposure to ISO, HACCP, GMP, hygiene and food regulations and standards.
Knowledge and Skills
Preferred
Foods QA orientated exposure to high-risk products.
