Job Description
-As the Specialist Technical Accountant, you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
-As the Specialist Technical Accountant, you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Consistently apply Safety and Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
- Monitor, research and share developments in financial accounting and reporting, especially regarding the IFRS.
- Drive integrating new standards and policies into existing procedures and systems.
- Ensure compliance with the latest approved accounting and reporting regime (Kumba and Group), regulations and legislation.
- Evaluate and assess the implications for internal accounting and reporting processes and prepare recommendations for developed/obtained solutions and proposed system, policies, and procedure changes.
- Propose projects to automate and standardise transactional accounting throughout Kumba. Drive them once approved.
- Prepare group and company financial statements and related reports for the group entities.
- Reporting significant accounting matters to the Audit Committee and Anglo American.
- Use data analytics to derive insights from financial data to inform decision-making and identify trends.
Qualifications
- -Grade 12 or equivalent
- NQF 7 Degree in Finance/Commercial/Business Accounting/Economics
- NQF 8 Postgraduate Degree in Finance/Commercial/Business Accounting/Economics is preferred
- CA (SA) registered professional
- Valid SA Drivers licence
- 6-8 years of experience in Accounting, preferably gained from a corporate environment within a mining/resources company.
- Awareness of how accounting processes interface with and impact other teams within the Finance department.
- Proficiency in preparing consolidated financial statements accurately and efficiently.
- In-depth understanding of complex commercial and technical accounting issues and a firm grasp of IFRS.
- Familiarity with financial systems, such as SAP and HFM, and a solid understanding of financial controls.
- Operational knowledge within the mining industry is considered an asset.
- Experience collaborating with other functional disciplines to deliver technical accounting and taxation solutions (advantageous).
