Kantar Media is a global leader in media research. This includes audience measurement - reporting all viewing on all platforms, consumer profiling and targeting with TGI, and in-depth advertising intelligence. Kantar Media is seeking a Data Steward into the technology function to join our offices. The role could be based globally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The data steward will take ownership of data within the organisation, working with cross functional teams to connect the dots, creating best practices and policies on data management and governance. The data steward needs to understand the contractual framework and requirements our business operates in. Data governance policies will define how data is stored, classified, labelled, and curated.
- Classify – multi-layer classification depending on the type of data, stage in the data processing workflow, etc.
- Label (tag) – Make data assets discoverable and searchable
- Curate – describe how to make use of the data. Enable self-serviced analytics.
Collaborate closely with cross functional teams ensuring data is used effectively and efficiently.
The data steward will be in charge of introducing a 'Data First' strategy, promoting the use of Data throughout the company, enabling 'smart solutions' or 'self-serve platform'. The data steward will drive the change required to democratize access, knowledge and understanding of data.
The data steward will:
- Maintain quality, useability, and availability of master and meta data on daily basis. Have good data security sense and implement practical rules according to company's security principles.
- Maintain data profiles and business metadata, tag and label data elements in business semantics, create data vocabularies across the organisation, so that data can be searchable and makes sense to data users.
- Define data categories and their associated rules, label each category in unique keywords so that rules can be applied accordingly.
- Understand technical metadata, make sure changes in technical metadata comply with organizational data governance rules.
- Own and lead data retention and data resilience services, work together with technology to develop the necessary tooling for this.
- Support the wider team in 3rd party assessments, internal and external audits.
- Demonstrate a passion for learning new data focused technologies, including data science, cloud storage, A.I, and other data focused approaches and future paradigm shifts with how large volumes of data can be managed.
The data steward role sits in the intersection between business and technology. She / He is a person who understands the business problems and company solutions, but this is also a person who understands the data assets involved and how they are brough together to deliver the value to customers.
Skills and qualifications
- Strong knowledge of database management systems and data governance frameworks,
- Knowledge of any Data Catalog or Metadata management tools, understand the elements of self-service platform.
- Knowledge of Master Data Management and Reference Data Management.
- Good understanding of data classification and data profiling, demonstrate real life Data Ops skills.
- Know how to deal with data quality control, data security and data resilience from ops point of view.
- Understanding of basic Relational, No SQL, Data Warehouse and Big Data concepts,
- Experienced in SQL querying
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
- Ability to interpret contractual requirements into processes and enabling technology.
- Understanding of cyber security concepts, data privacy and data protection laws.
Experience requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems management, statistics / data science, or a related field.
- Experience in working in a cross functional environment, e.g. business, architects, engineering and data science teams.
- Experience in the media domain (digital advertising, social media, television) will be considered a plus
