Our Mace consultancy pharmaceutical and life sciences sector set out to make a difference in the industry. Established in 2013, the team has grown in size and scope with employees based in the UK, Europe and America, with wider coverage throughout the globe.
We provide an end-to-end consultancy service for some of the most notable and innovative life science projects, including manufacturing facilities for several manufacturing market leaders. We leverage the latest innovation, regional expertise and global best practice to continuously improve and advance infrastructure delivery, advising on critical public services and works of cultural importance; driving growth and delivering some of the world's most technically complex and inspiring programmes of work.
The Project:
We're hiring for an experienced PMO / Project Controls Director (German speaking) to lead an exciting project in Basel Switzerland.

  • Accountable for the PMO and project controls performance of all service delivery for their assigned Hub/s.
  • Responsible for ensuring all PMO and risk management services within assigned hub(s) are fully aligned with best practice and international ISO standards and is reflected in all control centre.
  • Acts as a role model and mentor to others.
  • Provides expert advice and support to all projects within their hub and additional support to other hubs as/when required.
  • Partners with clients exceeding their expectations and building strong professional relationships.
  • Acts as the PMO and project controls subject matter expert within assigned hub/territory.
  • Leads and directs the delivery of all technical PMO and project controls services within assigned hub/s including all aspects of digital services.
  • Works collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.

You’ll need to have:
  • Significant experience of effective PMO and project controls leadership on significant/landmark/mega construction projects.
  • You'll have fluency in both German and English to build effective relationships across our stakeholder groups.
  • Significant experience of leading the effective deployment of robust PMO and project controls strategies/frameworks and integrated project controls methodologies.
  • Expert knowledge of risk tools, techniques and software (e.g., MS office and Power BI, Aconex, Primavera P6 and Risk Hive, @risk, Primavera Risk Analyser).
  • Ability to manage activities with significant uncertainty or ambiguity providing effective consultancy to clients and other key stakeholders to drive effective outcome/s.
  • Strong business development skills and commercial awareness/acumen (e.g. cross selling Mace services into client organisations).
  • Strong understanding of construction and related industry, trends, innovation and associated threats and opportunities.
  • Deep domain knowledge of providing PMO and project controls leadership in collaboration with external bodies, professional institutions and peers.
  • Excellent communicator (verbal and written), relationship manager.
  • Confident presenter and public speaker; ability to capture the audience and clearly transmit the position/message.
  • Effective appraisal/analytical skills to support skilled negotiations, problem solving, or conflict resolution.
  • Develops and maintains excellent professional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience of delivering a range of project services on major construction programmes or management consultancy.
  • Relevant university degree (e.g. construction, engineering) or equivalent.
  • Chartered (or equivalent) membership of relevant professional institution(s) e.g. Association of Project Managers.
  • Management Successful Programmes / P3O / P3M3 accreditation.
  • Engages with peers within professional bodies and other forum to maintain professional knowledge and work across industry to advance the profession.
You’ll also have:
  • Membership of RICS, CIOB, APM, ICE or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
  • Extensive experience in the successful delivery phase of projects and programmes in the consult sector.
  • Deep property or infrastructure project management expertise.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Leadership and management experience of large, diverse teams.
  • Experience of managing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
