The School
English Time was founded in 1997 in Istanbul. From a modest one center language school, it has now grown into a large scale operation with more than 90 branches throughout Turkey.
Language Programs
English Time offers both General English courses and English for specific purposes. Many of our branches are also running courses for junior groups and exam study courses for local and international examinations. Private Tuition is also a part of the language teaching services offered by English Time.
Teaching Days & Hours
In language schools throughout the country, learners mostly favour the weekends. Therefore, instructors should expect to be assigned both and afternoon groups on the weekends. Weekday classes are usually conducted in three slots as morning, afternoon and evening classes.
Weekday Morning slots are conducted between 10:00 am – 01:10 pm, whereas evening classes start at 06:50 pm and finish at 10:00 pm. Completion of one term (one CEFR level) in weekday groups takes up 120 lessons and completed in 6 weeks.
Weekend morning classes are held between 09:00 am and 01:00 pm, and one CEFR level is completed 8 weeks.
Generally, a full time teacher should be prepared to work within the periods mentioned below;
Weekdays 09:45 am – 18:45 pm
or
13:00 pm – 22:00 pm
Weekends 09:00 am – 18:00 pm
Position offered
Qualified and/or suitable candidates are offered the position of “Instructor of English”. Applicants should possess the following documents;
a) A university college degree preferably in English or related subjects
b) A teaching certificate, such as CELTA, TEFL, TESOL, DELTA or similar.
Remuneration & Fringe Benefits
Full Time Teachers
a. Full-time teachers work on the basis of a net monthly salary, which is figured out according to the qualifications and experience of the teacher. And if, within a particular month, the employee happens to exceed 200 instruction hours/month, he/she will be entitled to receive an overtime payment for each outstanding lesson.
b. Full time instructors who will be travelling from abroad to work at English Time can benefit from the accommodation facilities of English Time flats on a shared basis, where the residents are only required to cover the utility costs and bills. Those who do not wish to reside on a shared flat may receive a 1.000,00 TL rent allowance per month. Teachers already residing in Istanbul cannot benefit from such an allowance.
c. minimum 1 day off per week,
d. official status (i.e ministry approval and work & residence permit),
e. days off during national and religious holidays, which we have plenty in one academic year.
f. Local travel expenses in case any extensive duty may be given outside the course building.
Frequently Asked Questions
Accommodation
Generally, teachers prefer to stay in our apartments by sharing the flat with another 2 to 4 teachers depending on the size of the apartment flat. Teachers are provided with a private room supplied with basic requirements e.g bed, mattress, pillow and blankets and a small size wardrobe, and standard kitchen utensils.
Bathrooms and kitchens are commonly used areas and teachers are supposed the share the utility costs e.g gas and electricity, and pay the standard apartment dues.
Flight Expenses
We do not make an upfront payment for the flight, unfortunately. There is a bonus payment (not to exceed USD 500,00) upon the successful completion of 12 months, and whether such a payment will be made or not is solely decided by the branch/education manager based on the successful performance of the teacher.
Airport Transfer
In Istanbul, there are two airports, at each of which there are standard bus services to major city centres at a very low cost. We generally pick you up at the airport or at the location where you get off the service bus, and take you to the branch you'll be working at and/or the flat you'll stay.
Work Permit
Generally, foreigners travelling to Turkey for work purpose are supposed to make an application for “work visa” through the Turkish Embassy in their home country by submitting required documents and paperwork through the company they will be working for. Eventually, they are given a reference number to follow the process, which may sometimes take more than 4-6 weeks.
We can definitely make an application for “work permit” through the ministry of labour for our foreign teachers. However, according to the new regulations in the employment of foreigners in Turkey, the companies are supposed to employ foreigners with a salary three times as much as the minimum wage in Turkey, and the monthly salaries of foreigners are also considered as taxable income. Therefore, as a rule, we provide work permit for the teachers with whom we mutually agree to work together for at least two years or more.
Health Insurance
Foreigners having a residence/work permit are automatically supplied with a special private health insurance policy at the beginning of the application process, which covers health services offered by state hospitals, most of which are even superior to private hospitals in terms of equipment, treatment and general health services.
Educational Materials
At English Time, we have been utilizing materials exclusively prepared, written and published or copyrighted for English Time through our sub-division called Time Publications. Therefore, all coursebooks, materials, lesson plans, teacher resources, classroom activities, digital materials, quizzes and examinations are readily available. Teachers are not supposed to utilize, photocopy and/or prepare extra materials from outside sources, but they are expected to be well prepared for their lessons based on the materials/coursebooks they are using.
The educational consultants and/or head teachers in your branches will supply you with the materials you need right before you start teaching.
