ASSISTANT COOK – PART TIME SEAVINGTON COMMUNITY CAFÉ
Our Community is at the heart of what we do - with a shop and cafe run on a not-for-profit basis in order to supply the village and those visiting us with everything from life's 'essentials' to fresh bread and cakes, handmade gifts, newspapers and off licence. Mostly run by volunteers - it has become a hub for the community to gather, shop and meet family and friends. Always friendly and welcoming, it not only helps provide essential products and food, but also friendship.
Our Cafe is renowned in the area for its delicious meals, hot drinks and homemade cakes - available to eat in and take away. This is an appointment for a person with the right mix of initiative, skills and experience to assist our cook in running our Community Café
You will be reporting to the head cook Mrs Jane Bourne
Terms
Normal Working Hours to be 15 hours per week with some flexibility to do extra hours, paid on an hourly basis. 5.6 weeks paid holiday per year based on normal working hours. Normal working hours to include some Saturdays and Irregular hours.
Required Experience and Skills

• Experience preparing simple menu items.
• Experience working in café kitchen and front of house.
• Ability to work independently and as part of the team
• Ability to train and support a diverse staff of volunteers
• Ability to multi task and work in an active and dynamic environment

Immediate Responsibilities

• Produce high quality food and drinks, including a daily lunch special and having regard for appropriate preparation, procedures and presentation.
• Manage the café kitchen during the head cook’s leave/absence including a hands-on food preparation role that utilises the varying competencies and skills of all individual café volunteers.
• Handle, store, label and rotate food in accordance with Health and Safety requirements. Develop the café menu that will be guided by an ethic of simple, seasonal, high quality food and with responsibility for quality control. This development should reflect customer demand and expectations.
• Maintain high standards of personal experience and hygiene at all times, especially with regard to clothing and hair.
• Ensuring the café area is efficiently run, welcoming, clean and attractively configured
• Maintain high standards of conduct and punctuality at all times.
• Maintain a level of fitness appropriate to the requirements of the post and report any difficulties immediately to the Chairman of the Management Committee.
• Be willing to flex hours when appropriate – e.g. to help with village events and group bookings.

Pay: £11.44 per hour
