We are currently looking for an experienced Mobile Maintenance Fitter (Mechanical Plant) to join our friendly team covering sites in the North East region around the Newcastle upon Tyne area in Tyne and Wear. This role forms part of the 24/7 engineering function covering various Tarmac quarries and asphalt sites. As well as Newcastle this role is easily accessible from Durham, Gateshead, Ferryhill, Spennymoor, Newton Aycliffe, Peterlee, Sedgefield, Darlington, Bishop Auckland, Consett, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and the surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility

Reporting to the Maintenance Section Manager, your role as Mobile Maintenance Fitter (Mechanical Plant) will be responsible for:

• Responding to plant breakdowns – ensuring assets are returned to production in a timely manner, and temporary fixes are followed up with a permanent solution
• Undertaking emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient way on all production equipment
• Owning small scale projects and delivering them in a pragmatic and proactive manner
• Taking a cost conscious approach to maintenance activities
• Coordinating with contractors and suppliers when they are on site
• Participating in root cause analysis so repeat failures can be eliminated
• Contributing to the continuous improvement of the engineering function through your own observations and experience
• Working with risk assessments and method statements
• Contributing to the preparation and development of safe working methods for repair procedures
• Maintaining and promoting Health and Safety rules and regulations
• Utilising the computerised maintenance management system and recording all work including fault descriptions, spares used and repairs carried out

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of Mobile Maintenance Fitter (Mechanical Plant) will be based in the North East of England and have a recognised apprenticeship (preferably a higher-level standard) or equivalent experience and previous experience working within a strong, practical mechanical systems environment, preferably within heavy industry.
Suitable candidates for the role of Mobile Maintenance Fitter (Mechanical Plant) will also have:

• Experience working with conveyors, drive systems – motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens
• Strong fault finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action
• Ability to remove and fit bearings
• Experience of welding and fabricating
• Capability to undertake emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient manner
• Self-motivated approach and enthusiastic
• Capability to work with minimal supervision
• Good IT skills
• Ability to use application based inspection schemes
• Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly
• Knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices
• ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential)

This is a mobile role with a company vehicle so a full UK driving licence with less than 6 points is essential.
