AIANTA works with Native Nations and communities, including Tribal Nations, Rancherias, Pueblos, Native Alaskan Villages and Native Hawaiian partnership organizations to ensure that cultural and recreational tourism perpetuates culture, builds economic opportunities, creates sustainable land use practices and more resilient landscapes to improve lives and provide broader access to cultural practices, food practices and recreation opportunities. By focusing on cultural tourism and recreational opportunities, Native Nations and communities can thrive alongside the lands and landscapes they steward and protect.
Job Description:
The Community Navigator Project Director will work collaboratively with the USFS Community Navigator initiative to establish and launch a program within AIANTA to serve Native Nations and communities to support initiatives that build capacity for increased access and sustainable participation in funding opportunities through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to address climate change and wildfire risks through healthy forestry practices.
The Director will work with the USFS and community partners to support program development and
implementation. The Director is responsible for ensuring the project is developed and deliverables are met based on budget and project timeline. This position demands an experienced leader adept at managing project staff and ensuring project deliverables are met on time and within budget. The Director reports directly to the CEO.
The Community Navigator Project Director will spearhead the development of AIANTA's community navigator support network, focusing on assisting Native Nations and communities in identifying funding opportunities through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) with a variety of new and existing Forest Service programs. This role includes providing expert guidance on completing high-quality grant, contract, and partnership applications, offering post-application financial and reporting compliance mentorship, and supporting capacity building within Native Nations and communities to enable them to independently identify and apply for USFS grants and other funding opportunities in the future.
This multifaceted position involves leading a team of project navigators across the United States to meet outreach and technical assistance and training goals. This project engages multiple program areas within AIANTA, and the Director is responsible for engaging the team to meet project goals across program areas and partnerships and to lead in the planning, organization, and execution of project deliverables. This position will require travel in support of project goals.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position holds a bachelor's degree, with a master’s degree preferred, or an equivalent qualification in public administration, business administration, tribal relations, natural resources, social science, or related fields, along with a minimum of 4-6 years of experience leading projects and programs to completion. The candidate should also have 4-6 years of experience in building partnerships through outreach and relationship building with Native Nations, agencies, and organizations at both local and national levels, and 2-4 years of experience in hiring and supervising staff.
Additional qualifications include demonstrated knowledge and experience in federal funding research, Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs), and compliance, as well as expertise in data collection, analysis, and reporting. The candidate should have extensive experience in building collaborative projects and programs, working with federal partners and initiatives, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. A basic understanding and respect for tribal customs, traditions, values, and beliefs, coupled with a strong work ethic, initiative, organizational skills, and attention to detail, are essential. A valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one, along with the capacity to drive and a willingness to travel, are also required for this role.
Salary: $80,000 - $96,000, dependent on experience. AIANTA offers a robust benefit package.
