Position Description
Under the general direction of the DSPS Department Chair and the Dean of Student Success, the part-time counselor of Disability Services and Programs for Students ( DSPS ) is responsible for providing specialized academic, career, personal and disability management counseling to adult students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds. We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated counselors who exhibit a high degree of professionalism and a strong commitment to the success of students with disabilities. This position may work in the evening or on occasional weekend days to meet student needs as necessary, and this position may be assigned to various locations including the centers.

Job Duties
1. Provide successful specialized academic, career, personal, and disability management counseling to adult students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds.

2. Work as a DSPS counselor during day, evening and/or weekends at any of the College Centers, Ocean Campus, or at community sites as required, and/or travel among them as required. This may include in person, online, or phone counseling appointments.

3. Serve as an advocate for disabled students and work with instructors, counselors, other DSPS and CCSF personnel and community resources to assist students in the pursuit of their educational goals.

4. Evaluate verification of disability documentation, identify functional limitations and determine and arrange for appropriate and reasonable accommodations which address those limitations.

5. Successfully develop Academic Accommodation Plans (AAPs) for students with disabilities.

6. Facilitate the provision of accommodations such as notetaking, adaptive devices, special test taking arrangements, and ASL interpreting adapted classroom equipment.

7. Maintain confidential records; accurately record information needed to complete mandated reports, input student data into Banner system.

8. Participate in professional development activities, program development and review, student activities, high school outreach, and faculty committees.

9. Develop and provide In-service training for faculty, staff, and community.

10. Advise students on the matriculation process.

11. Develop, update, and approve academic education plans.

12. Represent City College of San Francisco’s Disability Services and Programs for Students Department at school and community events on and off campus; this includes but is not limited to: application workshops, college nights, college fairs, community events, presentations, tours, and events at CCSF center; hours may include weekends and evenings.

13. Exchange information with management and other staff, K-12 educational institutions, community and government agencies and other organizations regarding outreach, enrollment, retention and related services; travel to off-site locations.

14. Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate DSPS student recruitment programs, events, activities, including incoming DSPS student orientation.

15. Work with the CCSF Outreach Office to promote DSPS services.

16. Prepare and analyze reports, researching DSPS student enrollment, retention history and trends to increase student outreach effectiveness, in collaboration with other DSPS counselors.

17. Refer students to academic and student support services within the institution or other community resources as appropriate.

18. Assist students in selecting appropriate credit and/or noncredit classes.

19. Provide small group orientation sessions for students with disabilities.

20. Assist department in assessing Student Learning Outcomes ( SLO ) and Student Service Outcomes (SSOs) as they relate to DSPS counseling services.

21. Use current and emerging technology tools and software to promote the effectiveness and efficiency of counseling services.

22. Supports an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.

23. Participates in ongoing diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings to center pedagogy.

24. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

2. Earned Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Rehabilitation Counseling; OR THE EQUIVALENT ;
OR
Earned Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Guidance Counseling, Student Personnel, Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Education Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, Marriage, Family and Child Counseling; AND either 15 or more semester units In upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, or two years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:
(A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or
(B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military, or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.
OR
Earned Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Marriage and Family Therapist or in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist ( MFT ); AND either 15 or more semester units In upper division or graduate level course work related to people with disabilities, or completion of six semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities, or two years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:
(A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or
(B) Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military, or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.
OR
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Rehabilitation Counseling (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

Desirable Qualifications
1. Experience providing academic, career, personal, and disability management counseling to adult students with any of a variety of disabilities or multiple disabilities In an institution of higher education.

2. Experience working in a multicultural environment with adults from diverse backgrounds.

3. Knowledge of assistive aids, adaptive equipment, computer adaptations and/or other methods of providing reasonable accommodations.

4. Training in the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act ‘The ADA Amendments Act of 2008 ( ADAAA )’ and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

5. Experience evaluating verification of disability documentation to determine eligibility for services.

6. Proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, and/or American Sign Language.

7. Proficiency in using current and emerging technology tools and software to provide counseling services.

8. Training In the administration and interpretation of the WAIS , W-J, or other learning disability assessment Instruments.

9. Possession of a doctorate In a related field or a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor ( CRC ) certification.

10. Significant experience working with people with severe, persistent psychological disabilities.

11. Evidence of successful teaching experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students.

12. Demonstrated experience, commitment, and knowledge of inequities in higher education and rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for minoritized students.
