About Pee Dee Math, Science and Technology Academy:
Pee Dee Math, Science and Technology Academy is located in Bishopville, SC. The concept of PDMSTA was formed by a group of parents, teachers and community leaders within the Pee Dee area. Subsequently, a planning committee was formed to develop a strategy and plan. PDMSTA is organized to bring a creative solution to the Pee Dee area by providing an alternative approach to learning.
The mission is to develop innovative, confident and self-motivated citizens through a math, science and technology curriculum enhanced with collaborative community learning partnerships. This mission will be successfully accomplished by providing each child the opportunity to maximize their potential through an enhanced curriculum in science, technology, engineering and math.
Based on the growing need for individuals that are critical thinkers and innovators in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, a STEM curriculum is what rural Pee Dee needs to bolster student graduation rates and post-secondary degree seeking percentages.
Moreover, students of PDMSTA are a microcosm of a national trend of a decreasing interest in science, technology, engineering and math. PDMSTA offers a solution by offering a curriculum that is engaging, innovative, rigorous and relevant. PDMSTA will prepare students for a global society.
Duties
The duties required of a custodian include replenishing stock in bathrooms, cleaning restrooms, gathering and emptying trash, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, monitoring building safety and security and dusting. Keeping the school as clean and tidy as possible is the overall responsibility of a custodian. They should be prepared to do things like moving heavy furniture to reach corners, cracks and crevices of covered parts of the room. They may have school equipment, such as computers and tables, mow and trim lawns and other tools.
Skills
The skills required include reading comprehension skills, coordination skills, oral comprehension skills and equipment selection skills. It is important to be able to read instructions for cleaning certain surfaces and fixtures. It is also important to have oral comprehension skills to be able to follow verbal cleaning instructions. Equipment selection skills are useful in selecting the proper tools for each cleaning surface and fixture. It is helpful to have manual dexterity, flexibility and trunk strength when moving heavy furniture and lifting and arranging things.
Requirement
There aren’t any special education requirements; however, candidates should know basic arithmetic and you should be able to follow basic instructions. There will be on the job experience accepted.
Working Conditions
Custodians will work during the school day. The position is 40 hours per week and may include some evenings and weekends. The job requires individuals to work in well-lit, heated buildings, but they may also have to work outdoors. Most of the time will be spent on their feet, pushing and lifting heavy items. They may work around lots of noise, from loud rambunctious students to noisy machines and bending, stooping and stretching may be required for certain tasks.
