Industrial Electricity/Electronics Lab Assistant

Position Summary
Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System salary schedule E3-3.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists students in the computer lab and make sure labs are properly sanitized and cleaned.
- Sends program IT request when updates are needed for required software and computer programs used within the department. Substitutes in case of departmental instructor absence.
- Demonstrates and maintains a high level of competence and knowledge in Industrial Electricity/ Electronics and Industrial Maintenance.
- Assists the Industrial Electricity/Electronics instructors with program courses and labs.
- Prepares and teaches lab classes when needed. Assistance in the implementation of effective and comprehensive use of current technology in the Industrial Electricity/Electronics and Industrial Maintenance instructional areas.
- Informs students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance requirements, and academic progress.
- Assists with maintaining necessary attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submit them according to announced deadlines for each semester.
- Participates in annual planning, semi-annual inventory, and evaluation sessions in support of the College's vision, mission, and institutional goals and objectives.
- Provides instructional services for the Industrial Electricity/Electronics and Industrial Maintenance program.
- Participates in recruiting for Industrial Electricity/Electronics and Industrial Maintenance department.
- Demonstrates ability to use the computer effectively for word processing, electronic communication, maintaining online instructional resources, and for appropriate computer applications in the teaching discipline.
- Assists instructional with providing guidance in the areas of safety, applicable codes and standards, power tools, hand tools, control devices, maintenance methods and installation methods.
- Assists with preparing coursework, grade assignments, projects, and examinations as required in the classroom and the lab. Operates specific lab equipment as required for appropriate demonstrations.
- Must obtain other industry recognized credentials when offered.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Industrial Electricity/Electronics, Industrial Maintenance or related field from a regionally accredited institution or 3 to 5 years' work experience in the Industrial Electricity/Electronics career field, required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. Ability to work non-standard hours as needed is required.
- One to three years teaching experience, preferred.

All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Personal Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns up to two (2) regularly scheduled workdays of personal leave per leave year.
Unused Personal Leave converts to sick leave if not used.
Professional Leave
Up to 10 days a year of professional development leave with pay may be granted by the President.

Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.
Tier I - Pays 7.50% monthly. State matches 12.59% (effective 10/01/22)
Tier II – Pays 6.20% monthly. State matches 11.44% (effective 10/01/22)

Health Insurance
PEEHIP, established in 1983, provides health insurance benefits for active and retired education employees and is governed by the PEEHIP Board of Control. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
