Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Office of Academic Affairs oversees the various educational programs offered through the School and supports academic excellence. The Office of Academic Affairs staff members often participate in the admissions process and implement curriculum reviews and accreditation.The Office of Academic Affairs offers pre-admission evaluations for prospective DDS students, assists current students with any number of issues, and advocates for the student body to ensure needs are met.
Position Summary
The Teaching and Learning Consultant directly supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of ASOD curricula. Specifically, this position focuses on supporting faculty in designing learning objectives, instruction, assessment for various courses, and in leveraging instructional technology to ensure effective delivery of course content. This position also provides faculty professional development and training on instructional design and pedagogy to increase faculty capacity to implement best practices and innovations in teaching and learning in the context of dental education. Further, the Teaching and Learning Consultant supports curriculum management activities such as curriculum mapping and accreditation, and educational evaluation activities such as peer evaluation of faculty and outcomes assessment of academic programs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to consulting or developing course content, curriculum, instructional technique/technology, distance education design, development or implementation, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience teaching and developing courses/curriculum. Experience training or coaching others on topics related to teaching and learning. Experience completing instructional observations and providing feedback.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience collaborating with faculty in higher education and/or health professions education.
