Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing professional level work in the examination and analysis of insurance complaints concerning the operations and business practices of insurance companies, agencies, agents, and public adjusters. The duties are performed under close supervision progressing to limited supervision. The position specializes in at least one line of insurance (health); including organizing, collecting data, identifying, and documenting complaint findings, legal files, and company complaint reports. Duties also include reviewing complex policy forms and rate submissions, investigating and working with legal staff on complicated issues involving interpretations of insurance law. This position will progress to Insurance Examiner-Journey, specializing in analysis and resolution of more complex complaints and resolution in one or more lines of insurance.

Salary Information

Starting salary for the Insurance Examiner (07-04) be between $24.50-$28.50 hourly. Salary will be determined by applicant qualifications. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details

Due to the nature of the position, OCI will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. OCI does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.
This position has potential for a combination of telecommuting and in-person work after an initial training period has been completed. Mondays are currently mandatory in-person days. Further details can be discussed during the interview.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have experience in:
  • Experience with researching, interpreting, and analyzing complex information such as statute, policy, administrative code, etc.
  • Experience in the insurance, legal, or regulatory fields.
Well qualified candidates will also have experience with:
  • Experience with health insurance products.
  • Experience with contract management, including development, review, drafting, negotiation, administration, compliance monitoring, enforcement and regulations governing state and federal funding, and developing litigation strategies.
