The 12-week Ni Source Internship program starting May 18th, is a multi-faceted development experience that provides our interns with challenging and meaningful work that impacts the communities we serve. As a Ni Source intern, you will have the opportunity to learn from senior leadership and build professional relationships with employees across our company. The Ni Source Internship program also incorporates workshops to learn about Ni Source, the energy industry and infuses learning and development opportunities that sharpen your professional skills. The robust program will aid in building the fundamentals needed to enter the energy workforce upon graduation.

Job Summary:
During the 12-week clerkship, the successful candidate will be an active member of the Legal Department working alongside legal professionals and tasked with legal work overseen by attorneys. Remote and virtual candidates will be considered, with a preference given to candidates who can be at our Columbus, OH or Merrillville, IN offices in-person at least part-time. What you will do

Research and summarize case law and draft memoranda and other correspondence on legal and regulatory matters
Evaluate legal issues and collaborate with attorneys on contract, supply chain, real property, environmental, labor and employment, regulatory and litigation matters
Assist attorneys in preparing for regulatory filings, hearings, and meetings
Prepare for and attend meetings with internal business partners
Respond to subpoenas and discovery requests
Shadow on-site inspections and investigations
Assist attorneys in preparing for depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials
Participate in negotiations and settlements

Qualifications

Currently enrolled first-year or second-year law student pursuing a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
Completed Torts, Contracts, Property, Legal Research and Legal Writing classes
Ability to learn new concepts quickly
Ability to work independently, organize, prioritize and manage deadlines
Excellent research, oral and written communications and analytical skills
Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse internal legal and business groups
Positive and professional attitude, including dependability, timeliness, and good judgment

Available to work full time (40 hours per week)

Salary Range:

$15.30 - $27.60
