Business Profile:
Wyman-Gordon: Wyman-Gordon is a worldwide supplier to the aerospace and industrial gas turbine markets. We hold quality accreditations for all of the major airframe and engine manufacturers for both civil and military applications. Wyman-Gordon creates rotating closed-die forgings which are critical for aerospace and land-based gas turbines. Wyman-Gordon also manufactures structural forgings for airframe, nuclear, petrochemical, power generation, and space applications.
Location Profile:
Located in South Gate, California, Shultz Steel LLC is a state-of-the-art forging company specializing in large complex open and closed die forgings for the aerospace industry. We are a supplier of forged products to customers worldwide, with quality accreditations for all the major airframe manufacturers. As a vertically integrated company, Shultz processes include everything from vacuum arc re-melting of low alloy steels to target machining of impression die forged product. Shultz manufactures structural forgings for both civil and military airframes, as well as seamless rolled rings for jet engine, industrial, and space applications. Level One – With minimal Assistance of a qualified operator or Supervisor, the machinist level sets up and operates Manual and Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) mills, lathes, and drill press machines and machining centers to machine forged parts and rings by performing the following duties.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Reads blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
- Uses overhead cranes and/or forklifts to move parts and rings.
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, and write or edit computerized machine control media.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Confers with engineers, planners, metallurgists, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems.
- Writes Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts; clean and maintain machine and tools; and grind tools and accessories.
Required Skills:
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; One year related experince, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
