Managing Director, Supply Chain Management

How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)
The Supply Chain Managing Director will be responsible for master category strategy for ACS, transportation and logistics, and crew accommodations ensuring best practices across the sourcing lifecycle, key stakeholder alignment and successful implementation. The Managing Director will lead a team of Directors, General Managers, Category Managers, and Commodity Managers.

Develop Category Strategy
  • Establishes category strategies for the complex areas of spend and multiple stakeholders
  • Monitors overall category strategies development and implementation, leads changes to the strategy in line with the changing business environment
  • Defines execution methodology and category management tactics and integrates into category strategy
  • Performs internal review of category strategy with Delta leadership and validates with key stakeholders
  • Establishes category targets and tracks progress
  • Identifies and defines potential taxonomy amendments as part of category strategy development
  • Provides input for business engagement strategy as appropriate
Evaluate Industry Trends
  • Identifies key industry issues / trends for and outlines implications for Delta
  • Evaluates macro trends and opportunities based on input from business engagement strategies, category management tactics, supply market intel, and common business requirement opportunities
  • Integrates external supply market research into category strategy
Define, Develop and Execute Sourcing Strategy
  • Evaluates portfolio strategy & analytics recommendations and appropriately adjusts project scoping and resource alignment
  • Ensures performance tracking measures are relevant and effective; ensures documentation of addressable spend, preliminary savings levers, and savings target
  • Develops award scenarios and savings benefit summary information based on results of sourcing event / supplier selection
  • Monitors progress against budget, delivery of benefits targets, specific category measures, etc.
  • Develop positive partnerships with key vendor partners and serve as an escalation resource in active negotiations
  • Direct responsibility / accountability for managing key regional supplier relationships
Lead & Develop Team
  • Provides development and coaching to direct and indirect reports to prepare employees for placement into future positions throughout SCM and broader Delta
  • Leads and participates in appropriate workforce planning, selection and development activities
  • Setting annual goals for team to execute on the strategic priorities and projects of SCM
Stakeholder Management
  • Fully understands stakeholder landscape, creates stakeholder plan, understands the role they play and works to maintain relationships in partnership with other members of SCM, including business unit leaders
  • Consults and advises client stakeholders seeking buy-in on recommended sourcing treatment based on category plans; clarifies and prioritizes the value required from the category
  • Serves as a trusted advisor aligning closely with leadership to understand their business and business goals
  • Drives an awareness of supplier expectations and requirements within the organization to foster win-win relationships
  • Participates in key client business meetings (key vendor meetings, occasional trade shows, financial / investment planning, financial governance meetings)
  • Builds relationships with associated partners in legal, security, finance, treasury - assists client leader in navigating other shared services complexities as it relates to sourcing/purchasing
  • Models flexibility to work differently to adapt to the needs of the business unit and/or business partner (demonstrates non-linear thinking in engaging in process)
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in developing and executing strategic planning or larger scale / cross functional program management at Delta, other fortune 100 companies
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance or related field or 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Ability to work effectively with senior leadership on C-Suite and Board topics to drive change and achieve strategic goals
  • Executive presence to be an effective agent of change, leading through influence and vision across the enterprise translating the strategic plan into tangible and easily understood goals
  • Experience performing financial analysis, analytical modeling, data analysis for the purpose of assisting the exploration of strategic options and development of creative solutions to complex problems
  • Experience researching external trends, sources, information to form perspectives / points of view / recommendations given quickly changing or ambiguous topics
  • Participation in one or more organizational transformations with evidence of business change, performance improvement, growth, cost reductions
  • Initiative-taker, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a fast paced, highly visible environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
  • Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States
