Your Specific Responsibilities
The Radon and Indoor Air Program is part of the Public Health Toxicology Section, Bureau of Environmental Public Health in the Division of Disease Control and Health Protection. This position assists the primary subject matter expert on addressing public health risks regarding chemical, physical and biological agents in the indoor environment.

Primary Mission of the Indoor Air Part of the Radon and Indoor Air Program:
To educate and inform the public about the health risks of indoor air quality issues related to mold, dampness, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, asbestos, pests, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
This position will have the following duties and responsibilities:

1. Serving as indoor air education and public awareness staff:
  • Responding to and tracking inquiries from the public and other organizations/agencies
  • Preparing and giving presentations
  • Developing, reviewing, and updating educational and outreach materials
2. Communication is done through:
  • Phone calls
  • Emails
  • In-person and online presentations
3. Handling all other duties including emergency duties as assigned by supervisor

Note:
Some after hours and weekend travel in Leon County and instate travel may be required to provide outreach presentations.

Preferable Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree of science with a major in the natural sciences (biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, geology, etc.) or applied public health sciences (industrial hygiene, environmental public health, occupational safety and health, nursing, medical, toxicology, etc.).
  • Two (2) years of experience answering questions from the public.
