Job Description


This position is the recognized resource over the Lung Cancer Early Detection Program (LCEDP). It requires significant subject matter expertise and the ability to work at a high level with national, state, and local programs and partners. This position consults with and provides technical assistance on all aspects of public health communication to internal and
external public health programs as well as healthcare professionals, community agencies, and in regard to the Michigan Lung Cancer Early Detection Program and its priority activities. Subject matter expertise to assess, develop, implement and evaluate communication resources including ready to use tools, state-level reports, accessible documents and webpages, infographics, press releases, and other communication strategies is essential. This position serves on bureau level workgroups, department advisory committees, and facilitates state and national-level lung cancer communication adhoc workgroups and discussion groups. This position, as the recognized resource for lung cancer, will develop and promote partnerships and collaborate with public and private organizations to assist in the development of health care projects, tools, initiatives, and resources that address communication, awareness and education. This position will expertly
plan public health communication initiatives, strategies, and resources that address lung cancer prevention and control, health disparities, build cultural humility, and promote health equity. This position will research, create, and disseminate materials, press releases, reports, and other communication resources to support and improve lung cancer prevention and
control. The ability to integrate reliable cancer-relevant data, and use social media is essential. Included in this position is the development of resources regarding all aspects of the lung cancer continuum, as well as governor’s office proclamations, and other lung cancer-related tools and messaging. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a master's degree in public health, health communication, health policy or a public health-related field such as nursing, epidemiology, health education, health economics, dietetics/nutrition management, genetics, or speech and audiology; a master's degree in social work; master's degree in counseling; master's degree in special education with specialization in blind/visual disabilities; or a master's degree in public or business administration with a health care concentration.
Experience
Three years of professional, post-master's experience as a consultant in a field of public health equivalent to a Public Health Consultant, including one year equivalent to a Public Health Consultant P11.

Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 320 South Walnut Street, Lansing, Michigan 48933. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.

Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:

  • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
  • A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
  • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.

Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.

Paid Holidays: Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
