Software & Database Support Associate

Works under the supervision of the MRS Software Projects Manager to maintain and support the continued development of the Migration & Refugee Information System (MRIS) database and related projects, including the migration to the new database management system. The purpose of this primarily government grant-funded position is to coordinate and facilitate database and other software project support. Assumes all project-related development of databases including coordinating activities, evaluating system requirements, and documenting database structures. Contributes to the Bishops’ strategic plan for the Conference. Demonstrates willingness and ability to understand, respect, and contribute to the USCCB mission and to fulfill job duties in accordance with its Catholic identity.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Database Systems Support (55%)
- Recommends solutions for enhancements and maintenance of the Migration & Refugee Information System (MRIS) diocesan portal website, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database systems. Coordinates with USCCB Information Technology and software vendors in the installation and testing of new applications, system upgrades, and security controls to determine compliance with system specifications.
- Coordinates and trains staff on the functionality of MRIS database system.
- Administers and troubleshoots Microsoft CRM database (MRIS) and future database systems including the creation of help desk e-mail templates, system views, custom reports and manages user accounts and security roles for internal staff and the national provider network (300+ sub-recipients and 1,500 users) via phone, email, desk-side and remote desktop support.
- Create testing strategies and user acceptance testing (UAT) including unit testing and end-to-end testing.
- Create frontend user interfaces and system workflows.
- Creates and updates MRIS training manual policies and procedures.
- Digitally records and edits MRIS training videos and trains staff on use of editing software.
- Gathers requirements and collaborates with vendors on user interface and user experience needs.
- Works with the product development team (i.e., vendor and MRS staff) to ensure that the acceptance criteria are met and the software meets project objectives/customer expectations as defined by the product owner.
- Assists USCCB Finance & Accounting with MRIS desk audits (and on-site visits as necessary) of selected sub recipients.
- Oversees projects to maintain quality controls in the development and implementation of enhancements to existing database systems.
- Prepares status reports on project activities to ensure compliance with MRIS specifications and USCCB standards.
Project Coordination (20%)
- Coordinates project planning, development, and communications in collaboration with the MRS Software Projects Manager, USCCB Information Technology , MRIS Programs Project Manager, and other project stakeholders.
- Defines objectives and risks related to proposed projects from scheduling, architectural, engineering, feasibility and quality perspectives.
- Works effectively with project team members to establish goals, work content, and schedules and prepares planning documents and tools.
- Researches administrative issues and processes to facilitate team activities, identify resources, and seek assistance or information as needed. Assesses the need for external resources, stakeholder input, and other information.
- Recommends project evaluation processes and tools, identifies success measurement standards for each project phase, and coordinates information-sharing between stakeholders.
- Serves as a liaison for both internal and external project communications and communicates project team results to the MRS Software Projects Manager, MRIS Programs Project Manager, and others as assigned.
- Tracks and reports information by maintaining project action item lists, design issue lists, due dates, and other project milestone information.
- Monitors and updates project status and schedules; maintains and tracks project information.
- Enters, updates, and retrieves information from a variety of software applications; revises and maintains project data, reports, and correspondence files.
Junior Development Support (20%)
- Experience architecting, developing, testing, and maintaining of Microsoft CRM Front-End/Back-End
- Assist developer with developing, deploying, customizing and integrating Microsoft Dynamics CRM and future database systems.
- Hands-on experience with SDLC methodologies and best practices including Agile methodologies, deployment automation, code reviews, and test-driven development.
- Work across all aspects of CRM software to include technical requirements, system configuration, user requirements, and system upgrades
- Extend capability of CRM through creation of new entities, forms, work flows and reports
Other Duties (5%)
- Performs other duties assigned by the MRS Software Projects Manager.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Level: Bachelor's degree or minimum of 4 years of related work experience
Major Field/Specialty: Computer Science, Computer Technology, Information Systems, hardware/software engineering, technology project coordination, or related computer field.
Number of Years Required: Minimum of 4-5 years
Other Specialized Training: (i.e. word processing, personal computer, knowledge of the Catholic Church, etc.)
- Demonstrates ability to effectively analyze data, data processing concepts, database principles and design, and software installation and maintenance.
- Excellent project coordination, communication, interpersonal, and research skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Share Point 2007 or Share Point 2010, Microsoft CRM, Adobe Professional Suite, Smart Draw or Microsoft Visio, Gift Works, or similar donor software.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Familiarity with Catholic Church structures and teachings.
PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE
- Must have worked in an environment in which there was demand for excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to effectively addressed complex database system management.
- Must be highly organized and willing to work collaboratively with peers, colleagues, and others to achieve MRS mission.
- Varied experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Share Point, Adobe Professional, and Microsoft Visio/Smart Draw.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies.
This position pays between $59,828.00 and $74,140.00
