US Architect of the Capitol

Duties

The individual selected for this position will:
  • Evaluate office processes consisting of numerous functions at varying levels of difficulty. Recommend changes in office policy to management or takes initiative to execute improvements to those processes, ensuring the stability of overall operations. Manage the CEO’s schedule, to include all meetings, appointments, events, and activities. This requires initiative and assume discretion to establish priorities, arrange commitments, reschedule, or refuse appointments or invitations to festivities, and/or arrange for a representative to attend in the CEO’s stead. Advises the CEO on any important matters addressed in the event of their absence. Oversee the scheduling and completion of any work services installation, renovation, maintenance, and/or repair to the office area.
  • Receive, screen, maintains, and safeguard the CEO's personal file of correspondence and documents concerning pending investigations, subordinate personnel, productivity reports, etc. Respond to correspondence on behalf of the CEO when authorized to do so, and refer technical matters to the more appropriate subordinate personnel assigned to handling those issues. Manage a tracking system to ensure actions are completed within established deadlines. Keep records for time, attendance, leave, amount of filing space, and quantity of technical or policy material present in the offices and records the minutes of the CEO and staff at meetings; prepare the minutes for distribution. Reach out to top-level officials to gather or develop information and create materials which the supervisor uses to make decisions and for public briefings. All materials and reports are made readily available to the CEO in a timely manner to support a seamless work flow and effective overall business operations.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for the Capitol Visitor Center and the Office of the CEO concerning all recommended changes to Architect of the Capitol administrative policies and House and Senate office support organizations such as the Curator’s Office, Telecommunications, Service Center, Parking Office, Clerks Office, etc. Develop highly communicative working relationships with key representatives from the following: the Committee on House Administration, House Sergeant-at-Arms, Chief Administrative Officer, House and Senate Rules Committees, House Office Building Commission, Speaker’s Office, and Architect of the Capitol.
**Please note, experience working on Capitol Hill is preferred.**

  • A citizen of the United States;
  • A person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B);
  • A person who is admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157 or is granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1158 and has filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible;
  • A person who owes allegiance to the United States (nationals of American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Northern Mariana Islands, and nationals who meet other requirements described in 8 U.S.C. 1408); or
  • You must be able to pass a drug test and background check.

You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

Candidates for the GS-12 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Reviewing, editing and drafting documents;
  • Supporting high level management in a confidential environment; and
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office to support and manage record keeping.
